Rowe AMI CD100-C

by jacabjb » Sat Dec 04, 2010 4:14 pm

I am working on a Rowe AMI CD100-C (SN 031389). When I power it on, it cycles the CD rack and then after about 90 seconds, the CARD ERROR light comes on (cards attached to the right side of the CD player), then the SYSTEM ERROR light comes on in the Central Control Computer board. During startup, the front panel displays "RAMTEST PASSED" and "CHECKSUM = 9B00", then, when the error lights come on, the front display panel shows "Out of Order".

Is this box a lost cause? The CD player was last upgraded 5/28/2008. It's going to be used in a home (not commercially). This scenario is the same whether in SERVICE or NORMAL mode. Any recommendations on which way to proceed?

Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim,

You need to go into the service mode and check out what the error codes are, if in doubt consult your user manual,

Jim,
Probably not toast ! But I am confused by the term "card error"--What / where are you seeing this ?
What model player is installed ( I have a feeling that someone has installed one of the "after market" type/brands in that phono) ?

On the right side of the CD player rack, there is a metal encased box with two "cards" is it. the card on the left side has four LEDs on the top edge - Scan Transfer, Board Error, Rowelink Response and 5 VDC. It is the board error light that comes on after about 90 seconds followed immediately by the System error light (LED) coming on in the Central Control Computer board on the back panel.

As to the CD player itself, the service sticker indicates that it was replaced 5/28/2008 along with a warning that removal of the unit would void the warranty so I am assuming it was installed by service personnel rather than an individual. Judging from pictures that I have seen online from manuals, it "appears" to be the same CD drive unit.

No service manual was provided when we bought the unit.

Thanks,
Jim

Jim,
I guess you need to purchase a manual--
Can you see any description/part number on that "box" ?
I MAY have good used replacement--if I can figure out what you have there--
contact me off forum if you want-- ronnnrich@yahoo.com

Jim,

You say after power-up, it cycles the CD rack ...

During this time, on the mech controller, do you see the Index LED blinking and the Home LED blink within 1 revolution ?

Are both RoweLink LED's blinking on the mech controller and CCC ?

It appears to be unable to find the selected CD, shuts down communication with the CCC which then causes the CCC to go "Out of Order".

Ed,
I missed the fact that Jim said it cycles the CD rack, upon start-up--
CD mechs are not supposed to do that---if that happens, it's saying that the CCC knows not where the "basket" is--
Therefore its looking for "home" (99). If it can not find 99, that usually indicates a problem with the opto--could be just dirty, un-plugged,
bad connection, or a faulty opto itself. Ron Rich

IMHO... you have a poor connection... It appears your computer is acting normal. I do not know what you are refering to when you say card... Is it a ROWE mech board and CDM-4 player? I assume you mean there are 2 circuit boards in the case. Like Ron says get a manual, or call a PRO(if you don't want to do the work). The book will tell you what the error code is telling you. It could be the optical switch and or gear needs cleaning.
