Rowe AMI MM5 1100 unit issues

by sambo521 » Fri Apr 03, 2015 5:50 pm

Hey Guys,
Just acquired a MM5 California from someone.
I have several issues with the 1100 unit.
First the record holder carousel doesn't turn very well. I think its just in need of a good cleaning.
Second is the picker assembly cam system is apparently out of time due to two loose set screws on the picker gear itself. Also, the small cast roller arm on the shaft that pushes up the flat vertical piece connected to the 1/4 gear has been under such a bind that it is worn to the point that the long roller shaft is skewed about 12 degrees.
I believe I can repair that item. I need to know how to align the whole picker tonearm switch cam section. (Sorry if I used the wrong terminology here).
And finally I think I'm missing something very important on this rig which might just make this thing not worth repairing.
If your looking at the front left of the 1100 unit there is a shaft with a plastic fork on it pointing outwards toward you. There is nothing on this shaft. I've seen pictures where there is a round device with a knob on it. I have no idea what it was or if it's needed or what it's for.
Still waiting on a couple of manuals for this.
Any help is appreciated.

Hi,
Please read the above posted "informational-sticky" posts, and purchase a service manual.
It's extremely difficult to determine what you are saying without the correct terms.
The only thing I can gather is that the "popularity meter" is missing, which is NBD for home use.

Hi, Ron is correct as usual on all points, the piece you refer to as missing is not needed for the jukebox to function . It is the popularity meter, which purpose was to tell which records where not being played very often, so mr service man could remove them and replace them with records that might make more money. Before you start messing with the cam and micro switch adjustments, I would wait for your manual. while you are waiting for your manual give the mech a good clean. I assume by the picker you mean the transfer arm that removes the record and puts it on the turn table, your manual will tell you how to align everything and what you call everything from your post it is difficult to know what your are describing. there are two causes for this problem:

-Dried up magazine motor bearings and gears. the record holder is called a magazine.

-Stripped fiber gear in the magazine motor. The motor can be replaced or rebuilt via the original manufacturer: https://www.multiproducts.com/

Parts do not get bent on these mach unless they have been subjected to severe strain due to someone improperly installing or tampering with parts of the cam assembly. My term: The Gepetto factor.

If you haven't worked on one of these mechs and amps, wait for the manual.

Very good on the popularity meter. That's what I needed to know.
Now I can order the manuals and go to town on this rig.
Thanks

If you really think you "outta have" the Pop meter, check with the suppliers listed above, and I would bet you at least one of them has some--
