Rowe Ami Jal model slams records.

Hello. I just purchased a 1962/63 Rowe Ami Jukebox model Jal. It's a great machine that was always in a private home from day one. One thing I noticed is that it really slams the records hard when the transfer arm moves them from the carousel to the turntable. Good thing their 45's and not 78's or else they would break. I have the service manual but can't find any info concerning this and I am sure it's just some kind of an adjustment. If any one has any ideas or suggestions I would appreciate hearing them. Thank you

Is the record slot lined up exactly with the transfer arm? If not, it can be adjusted. Under and behind the turntable is a plastic gear with two screws. With the magazine firmy locked in place (wiggle it from side to side) loosen the screws, center the slot, then retighten. If slightly off center the transfer arm can pick the record up off center and allow the record to hit the turntable center hub on its way down.

The record slot is lined up perfectly as it should. I will however take your advise and look for the item that you mention. I have been viewing every thing from the front during it's operation but haven't looked at it from the back. I will do so and maybe I can see what is causing this. Thanks for your advise. hi your problem is caused by the gears at back of turn table but it might be the bottom metal gear plus the plastic gears being worn you will nead a manual to check these gears tom

With regards to your transfer issue of the records being slammed down.

Start by degeasing fully the Trunnion, gears and gripper bow assembly. It is best to remove the Gripper Bow Assembly and take it fully apart. Whilst you are cleaning the parts you will be able the inspect the cam gear and trunnion gear for wear on the plastic, if that is the case then replace them. They cost about

If the gears were taken out of mesh by disassembly, they may have been put back together one tooth off.
