New to forums issue with Seeburg LPC480T

by Phistole » Tue Mar 19, 2013 9:28 pm

Hello, I have been working on a Seeburg LPC480T and my original issue was the jukebox would pick up a record and play at very slow speed. I went through and checked all the contacts and area's that normally get gummed up and all checked good except for the record clamp S switch. I adjusted as required and after that the motor would not rotate or start to play. So ah ha I thought needs a cap kit. Installed a cap kit and well bummer the motor will now run but very slowly. I then decided well lets change the motor run capacitor and now it starts slow but after 3/4 way through the record it kicks into gear and plays normal. I checked all my oil points again and made sure everything that should be moving properly is and still same issue. Decided maybe lets check the motor. I have a known good motor swapped and same thing... Now I am lost on this and I know its something simple. I keep thinking maybe electronics in the Auto speed unit but wanted to get some clarifications. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

You have two "gummed-up" motors, and probably some "gummyness", or mis-adjustment(s) in the drive train--

"Phistole" on the front of your autospeed unit is a small red test point. Connect an AC volt meter between that and the chassis.

Do you see a radical change in voltage as the motor speeds up? Generally a few volts does not mean much as the real issue here is frequency, but AC voltage will vary more than a few volts if the frequency is changing.

BTW: The correct frequency for 45rpm operation is approx 84 Hz.

Hello thank your for the reply's, Ron I used the oil you recommended in your Mech guide, but I will go out and buy a new bottle maybe mine has been sitting to long in the my shop.. Rob, I checked the voltage it starts around 105 volts then as it speeds up it jumps to 110 volt. I will have to borrow a o-scope and look to see what it looks like. Thank you for the reply's any little bit helps. I already tried the walk away and come back mode several times. :)

Did you dis-assemble and clean the "green gunk" out of the motor as per the Mech book--If not, I would say that it is your next step--on the Autospeed output voltage--they vary quite a bit, seemingly to no problem, on the hundreds of them I have repaired. I seldom have checked it in the last 30 or so years--
but then I use the Seeburg Factory auto check fixture, to test them-- Ron Rich
