Seeburg drive gear color "dots"

by Ron Rich » Thu Jun 30, 2016 6:35 pm

Hi All,
Sometime ago we went through this, but I can't find my reference--did anyone save the color code Seeburg used on worm/fiber gears--?
I know that they used Red, yellow blue and green--and I think the blue is 60 cycle 45 rpm--and yellow is 50 cycle 45 rpm ? Thanks, Ron Rich

Hi Ron,
When I replaced a gear set on a LPC quite a few years ago the speed controller was giving me grief so I took it out and replaced the red gear set with a yellow one that played 45rpm at 50hz I assume the red gear was 33.3rpm at 50hz.

Alan

Thanks--I think I have it figured out--
One question--why the reluctance to use an Autospeed--I find them to be just fine if rebuilt ? They will operate successfully for at least 20-25 years prior to needing new caps--
In case anyone else is interested, this is the conclusion I have come to:
Blue-45 / 60---Green 33 / 60---Yellow 45 /50---Red 33 / 50

Hi Ron,

The guy that I used to work with at Dransfields called Norman Craven used to repair them but always said the transistors used be an issue, he changed the caps like you suggested.

Hi Alan,
I think I have repaired at least one thousand of them-- probably only changed two sets of transistors--both times they showed evidence of having been shorted to "ground" ( earth, to you  ). I have replace a lot of the early diodes, that were used (1N4004 works well !). Also have seen my share of (people) ruined "control pots". These are fine, as long as "someone" does not jam a large screwdriver into them and "push" the insides of the pot, out--
