Rockola 490-1 Battery

So I did a nice job restoring a couple old juke boxes, and now I found a Rockola 490-1 in my garage. Yes, in front of the snowblower. I had completed my father-in-laws Seeburg B gratis, and he told his friend I could definitely fix his Rockola... Thanks dad.

Anyway, based on some earlier posts from Ron Rich, I first wanted to check the battery on the CPU for leakage etc. I see the lettering on the board for "Battery" on the bottom right of the board, but no battery is present. I don't even see any kind of clip or harness for one. Just a couple flat solder spots, and it doesn't really look like anything was ripped out etc. Am I looking at the right thing? What should I be seeing?

The carriage will scan with the manual switch, but I can't get the "Normal operation" lamp to illuminate. I can cycle through the other options with the S1 switch, but it just bypasses the "Normal" light. I'm guessing this is related to the lack of a battery?

I have the "Owners", "Parts" and "System 2 Operation" manuals, but am waiting on arrival of a full service manual which (I'm hoping) has the mechanical stuff.

About all I can help you with is the battery--it was a three in one cell, the same size as a standard AA battery. It was soldered to the two posts you see--I strongly suggest running wires outboard and using any three volt or 3.2-6 volt outboard. Ron Rich

Thanks Ron. I'm not sure what a "three in one" cell is, but you think something 3 to 6 volts DC will work?

Whoops. I think you mean 3.2 to 3.6 volts?

Yep--Don't know how that happened--could swear I typed "3, or 3.2-to 3.6" volts ?? Thanks for catching that !

Sorry... not to hijack the thread but I had an weird experience that is somewhat related...

I bought a Rockola 494 at an auction working. The CPU still had it's silver factory seal on it.
When I cracked open the CPU to check the battery, I also noticed there was no battery installed... just the contacts.

Did Rockola ship out CPUs without batteries?

I doubt it--won't function fully with out one--You do know what it looks like, and that it is mounted between the two PCB's--?
