Tube Tester

by Las Vegas Jukebox » Tue May 06, 2014 8:52 pm

If I send a US 110v tube tester to Europe is there any problem with using it via a standard voltage converter? Does the frequency matter? Will it still be as accurate when testing vacuum tubes?
Regards
Keith

Keith,
If the "converter", converts to US specs, the tube tester will work as well anywhere, as here --

The converter will only convert voltage, not frequency. So it will operate at 110v 50Hz instead of 110v 60Hz.

Keith,
Frequency coverters, are also available--some "combination" converters are also available, I have been told.
The Hertz differences may, or may not, affect the operation of any "machine"--depending on it's design--

You must use the transformer type converter. Do not use the diode type or the resistance type.

Whether or not the frequency matters depends on the design of the tube tester. Most tube testers don't use the AC, but rectify everything to DC. A few use the AC line frequency to vary the grid bias.

Thanks Record-changer,

The tube tester will either be a Sencore MU140/150 or a Hickok 600A, 800A, 6000A or 539C
