Restoring my Continental 1

by Gordo » Mon Feb 28, 2011 6:48 am

Hi all,

I am restoring my continental 1 (mono amp) jukebox.

I was using my Dremmel to tidy up some laminex that I attached to the side and slipped. I cut through the wires that run between the volume control and the amp.

This has 2 wires in a metal shroud then covered with the plastic cover. I resoldiered the (internal) wires however, the metal shroud was somewhat more difficult, I did however manage to solder these wires together. It looks a bit messy but as I assume this is to shield the internal wires, I'm not sure if it will still work.

Will this still shield the internal wiring or am I better off renewing the whole length?

I cannot check if my soldering has worked as the jukebox is still in pieces. I live in Australia and will need to order from America.

Your opinion will be appreciated.

Regards

Gordon.......

Hi Gordo,
What you can do to "clean up the mess" is install male/female RCA audio plugs in that area.
This will provide a good shield, and should not cause you any problems--

Ron, Thanks for the advice.

Would I be best to replace the entire cable (about 1 metre)? Are the RCA cables shielded?

Thanks

Gordon....

Gordo,
No need to---besides, they become very "touchy" up in the tone arm area on these models--best left un-touched there ! (while thinking about it--watch out for the "helper spring"--they "fly away" easy !!
Yes the outer "ring" of the RCA plug encircles the wiring---thus, it looks as if it were one section to the signal. Solder well !
