NSM satellite 200 - carriage problem

by Flippinggood » Fri Oct 25, 2013 5:04 pm

We have a NSM satellite 200. Unfortunately without a manual.
It's a great jukebox, but currentely not running properly after a few weeks of inactivity. Before it was running (oke).

Here's what is happening:
If the machine has been switched on with the carriage positioned all the way to the right the carriage will remain in that position until you make a recordselection.
After the selection the carriage begins to run to the left. The carriage doesn't pick up a record and stops before if reaches the left side, goes slightly to the right and then back to the left and stops. At this point "ERR. FF" is displayed.
The only way to clear the error is to power off the jukebox. During the running of the carriage the display doesn't count any numbers, after it starts at 100 and after it's run 260 is displayed.

We have replaced the optical sensor CNY 70 on the front of the carriage, but that didnt help.

Any ideas would be gratefully received. If any has a manual for the jukebox that would be appreciated aswell.

thanks in advance.

Hi
The home position for the carriage is on the right hand side, you should be able to scan the carriage using the scan button on the control centre, and you should be able to see the numbers count as the carriage moves, if the opto assembly is ok it may be a fault with the credit unit box, also check the scan(FA) and trip (LR) relays on the control centre board. With NSM machines the carriages can get clogged up very easily with old oil, dirt etc if not used in a while and need lubrication, the error FF cause is listed as a "deadlock" and remedy is "solve deadlock" thats listed in the manual and is not really a whole lot of help. Check all fuses on the control centre also

Thanks for the replies so far.

@Ron Rich
We haven't found a good manual for the satellite 200 or they are ridiculously expensive.

@clones
We recently replaced the optical sensor on the carriage. So that should be working fine.
If we use the scanbutton we don't see the numbers count as the carriage moves.
Do you know where this 'counter' is located?

@mb9513
We send you a PM

On the "price" of the manuals-- I am not sure about NSM manuals, but I sure am sure about Seeburg manuals--and I assume it is the same--You get exactly what you pay for -- If "in-expensive" they will be "missing" critical parts !

Hi
the counter button is on the digital display, it should count through the various selections as the carriage is scanned from i think 100 to 179 and 200 to 279 depending on which direction the carriage is moving, the fault could be either the optical sensor or the credit and control unit, have not seen many repaired, usually most people would replace it,

Hi, I'm new to the Satellite 200.
My issue is nearly identical to the above.
My machine worked until it was moved.

May I ask in relation to the above issue how the coin counter can create this fault.

I start my mech in the right position, it the travels all the way to the left and continues to drive the motor.

I thought perhaps the mech needed to be synchronised, the manual says to used P21, then input the position number. Is this correct ? Either way, it didnt seem to work, I did notice the yellow key for top 10 not working, perhaps this is why I cannot save the position number.

With all this said, I'm puzzle how the coin unit could cause this fault. The coin mech is out of the unit, the counter is still installed.

Help. Would love to use it on my 40th birthday party in 2 weeks.

Hi
When the carriage reaches the left side it should actuate a switch and reverse,re the fault above i was referring to the credit and control unit (silver box about 7 by 3"), if your worked before it was moved i would recheck all plug connections at the credit unit, control centre and underneath the carriage

Thank you, after all my reading I went into the office last nigh and checked alot of thing. I managed to get it to work as long as the record was to the left of the carriage, as soon as it finished it drove all the way to the left.

I looked for a reversing switch or an end switch but could not find one.

My unit uses an optical sensor for position, where the frame is black from record 70 to record 100.

I though, as i could not find a switch that triggered at the left end, perhaps there should be a black strip at the left side as well and it may have fallen out.

I'll check the card for talk of shortly.

I am an electronics technician as an occupation, but these jukeboxes are a little strange to me. Well done to those out there that repair them !!

I have check all connections to the control box. They are ok.
May I ask, how does this unit know it is at the left end.

Does it count pulses or is there a switch.

I do notice on the power board that there are two relays in the center of the board, I also notice, while the carriage is driving left that one is in operation, it remains in operation even though the carriage has hit the far left. It does turn off after a few moments but the error occurs.

I'm believing however this unit determines that it had encountered far left is the issue, without it knowing it will not stop the first relay nor engage another to reverse.

Any light anyone can share would be greatly appreciated.

Hi the relay that operates the carriage is the scan relay, when it is energised the carriage should move from right to left when it reaches the left a microswitch located near the wheel of the carriage (i think) should operate and reverse the carriage and vice versa when it reaches the right hand side if there is a selection. The trip relay should operate when the carriage reaches the selection slot and is operated via the trip solenoid on the carriage
