Seeburg and Rockola selection problem

2 more jukeboxes that i am stuck on ... First is a Seeburg USC2 . Got almost everything working & sounding just fine accept it will not select side 1 . It will not register anything with the digit 1 in it .
When i select 100 , the first and second digit panel light both go on as normal . The third # pushed the indicator lights go out as normal but nothing happens .
I have taken the eyboard apart and made sure all of the contacts are working and that all of the board traces were good and ohm metered every button while pushing it . I swapped both gray and black boxes with known working ones . I have checked the tormat contacts and wipers & cleaned those . I have checked & tripple checked all the usual . Now ?????

Second is a Rockola 464 - 160 This one selects fine till i get to # 105 and anything past that . The rotating arm on the left side just goes around without stoping and the third button pushed stays down and select the pin does not move over . The reset wont stop it . You have to either force the keyboard relay back or turn the thing off .
I took the keyboard out and took the contact board off to check and clean every contact and wire in it , polist & put back . Checked all wiring to the keyboard and its plugs & sockets . Took the circuit board out of that box in front and it looks fine ( didnt test any parts on it though )
I visually inspected the wipers & traces in the selector . The whole machine is so clean ( never saw smokw ) i didnt take any of that apart .

What next ??

On the Rock--open latter circuit in the keyboard ??

Hi Ron.. same thing no go. If i use the 1 button at all it wont go any selection not using the 1 works fine

Couple of questions--
1. When you say "no go"--does the 1st digit lamp light --2nd digit lamp--reset lamp--or does the mech scan twice without playing ?
2. Is the reset lamp working ( try on power up--credits established--first push a "0"--lamp should light--if not, press a "2" and see if the 1st digit lamp lights or not)?
What selection do you get if yo select "266" ?

The reset light works . I can enter any selection and those 1st & 2nd lights work as they should ....Enter '159' enter 1 and the 1st number light goes on .. enter 5 and the 2nd number light goes on .. enter 9 and both lights go off but the mech stays dead . If i do the same thing but enter '259' the mech will move , load & play that record . I did not try 266 but would emagine it would play it if its a lagit # If i enter a wrong # the reset light goes on .

What, EXACTLY, happens if you attempt to select 266?

Now that i am back at my shop. Push 0 reset lights up. Push 2 and the first digit light goes on. Select 266 and it plays 233 every time.

That's what I thought might happen--you have proven that data line "C" is shorted. If you have a copy of either my "Seeburg Trouble Shooting Guide" or the two page one, issued by Seeburg, you can use the "scratch test" to determine where the short is. If not, you will need to swap parts--black/gray boxes, and DCC, are most likely culprits--might check wiring also--all plug/pins associated with that data line, as it could well be a poor/non-existent, connection.

Thanks Ron . In my first post i mentioned i already swapped black & gray boxes .
Anyway today i got both machines symptoms fixed . I started with the Seeburg . You mentioned possible problems in the DCC supply . I had already taken that out and serviced all the boards and contacts , tested all the resistors and got good voltages on the test screws .

I took it back out for the third time and removed the 3 boards for again another close look and ohm test of stuff and test transistors . I found everything looking good as before .
I put the supply back in the jukebox , now no selections worked , no number lights came on . ( hair being pulled out )
I took the supply back out AGAIN .....after more waisting of time i noticed those long plastic connectors that push onto the circuit boards were warped outward in the middle . I pulled the contacts forward in the connectors and put it back in the jukebox .

Now all of selection buttons would start the mech ... but now it would not stop on any records ( bad language here ) So i pulled every one of those long plastic contact type plugs in the machine and pulled the contacts forward .

Now it works

On the Rockola ... same thing . Plug problems . It seems in these models they left unused contact plug sets laying around for extra features so it can get confusing .
Someone in the past had put 2 in wrong and left one out . The one left out was causing the non selection problem . The second ones were causing the 2 top speakers to not work .
