I have never opened up the ear speakers and do not see the values of the ear speaker capacitors listed anywhere in the Onwers Maual/Parts list.

By chance do you know what the value of the capacitors you placed in the ear speakers were? I know mine are over 30 years old and it is only a matter of time before I will need to replace them and would like to get some ordered (to lazy to open up speakers!). I would think that my speakers sound would improve with new capacitors, although I know Ron Rich is of the opinion that some old capacitors are better than the newer ones, however I denoted he asked if you recapped yours, so I would guess I need to do the same

Get used to the trouble shooting, I have been listening to one DS160. The first three records I selected kept repeating without scanning until I used the reject button. After those three records it has been playing flawlessly. Go figure. Troubleshooting guide said this can be caused by a badly warped record in the magazine (inspection shows that this is not the case) or by a bind in the trip mechanism, which thus far I have not been able to isolate?

I never said that "old caps are better then new caps"--or anything like that-- If that's what you understood, perhaps I mis wrote it, so, please understand that it was not what I meant. What I meant to have said, is that in some applications, certain types of caps just do not seem to fail. I am an advocate of changing caps--for sure ! Ron Rich

I ran across an article from Phil's Old Radios that states: " In a professionsal overhaul, it is common to replace all pf a set's large electrolytic capacitors and small paper capacitors." This article also states not to replace ceramic or mica capacitors without specific reason, as they are extremely reliable. Perhaps this is what you were thinking about?

I will check the trash when I get home and see if the old caps have the value on them... if not I can open a speaker and see, no problem.

I saw that guy on you tube... every time I did a search for ear speakers, he came up!...lol
His machine is very clean... I hope through cleaning I can get mine that nice looking at some point.

I have found most of my games/machines have less issues the cleaner they are. Sounds dumb I know, but it is true. When everything is clean, it just seems to get into as much trouble.

I hope it is the same way with jukes. If I keep the mech and the boards/panels clean, maybe it will help it not get so hot, or collect crap on the teeth or mech... keep the solenoid from gunking etc.

I think I am going to take a look at the credit switch/coin mech today. I am pretty sure I need to pull the mech and clean, regrease everything. Not looking forward to that, but at the same time... it will get a major task out of the way as well.

I really like these machines the longer I have it. I need to hear mine again!

Egg-xactly--no problem--to "clear this up"--I always replace all "Lytics" and "paper" types. I do not generally replace "ceramics" nor "mica" types, as most of the time they are OK, and sometimes it is difficult, if not impossible, to find the exact values. I do check them for spec--and replace them, with the closest value I can find.

Pulled cover off the ear speakers. Cap is 2 and 1/4 inches long and 1 inch wide old brown paper style. I can not find anything written on either end or the body of the cap. So, the question is what is the value of this cap and where do you find the value of the ear speaker caps?

I checked in the other manual I have. I find that I need 25 Mfd. Electrolytic Cap., 25 Volt Non-Polarized!

Is there any other cap that will produce better sound?

I have the values from the parts catalog, but, if it is not to much work. if you put in the same that would validate the right cap.

By the way, could you tell any difference in the sound from the speakers before you recapped them and after you recapped?

I am unable to locate any replacements capacitors for the ear speakers on my 1961 Seeberg JukeBox. The manual shows I need a 25 mfd electrolytic 25 volt non polarized cap.

Anyone have ideas what cap I could use in place of these or a site that allows you to cross reference capacitors?

For this you can just use two standard caps in each speaker. to make them non-polarized you connect them back-to-back (negatives together). When this is done the resulting capacitance is half of each cap's value, so you'll probably use two 47mfd caps with a resulting capacitance of approx 23.5 mfd. There is no DC component here so a voltage rating for each cap of say 16 or more is fine.

Alternatively, you can parallel caps to make up the desired value. I know that Radio Shack has various values of non-polarized caps that could be added to make the desired value.

Given the nature of this circuit, going up or down by 5 mfd isn't going to make much difference.

I don't think I'd replace them--I have only seen 2 or three bad NP's --and they were the "El C(r)apo" brand product--
