micromatic idler wheel contact

by wgwiz » Sun Feb 22, 2015 8:31 am

Sorryfor being redundant. I know this question hasbeen oosted but im not seeing a resolution. My Micromatic w620 has an idler wheel that wont make contact with the motor soindle at anyspeed other than 78. At 33 the wheel is maybe a mm away from the spindle. I have comoletely torn down cleaned and lubed the unit so im pretty confident the roobkem is not old grease. The idler assembly moves on its pivot pretty easily nd smooth. It just doesnt quite make it to the spindle. Also, bot wheels are pretty pliable. Rubber seems good. So, a couole of questions:
1. Could the idler wheel be to small in circummfrance?
2. What shiuld that measurement be?
3. Isaw one post that suggested the motor mountsmigt be old. Aand loose. Maybe an extra washer on the motor mount bushings would tighten tbings up and better align the spindle inrelatin to the idler wheel?
4. Aside form that im am allout if ideas.

Thanks in advance fir any advice

Follow up to my initial post. Sorry for the typos. Was typing on a very old tablet with laggy keyboard and a quickly drainin battery. Hope my message wasn't too tough to follow.

2.5" idler in those models.
The service manual of course provides all the information pertaining to the critical alignments and adjustments needed after an overhaul or repair.
The Internet is a marvelous thing, however it's not a good substitute for actually being there.

"wgwiz" -This may help:

There is a linkage that holds the idler away from both motor and table at shut-off to prevent flats. Binds or bends can prevent this from working properly.
