Seeburg R bench test - question using dim bulb tester

Receiver (WSR7-L6) re-capped, transformer secondary voltages previously tested and within specs. Continuing to test receiver (amp not connected, pin bank not attached) using a dim bulb test lamp. I have a 3/4 amp slo-blo fuse installed for testing in place of the 5 amp fuse.

Installed 2050 tube, tube lit up, no issue, test bulb remained dim. Plugged in mech, no issues, popularity meter light lit up, test bulb remained dim. Installed plug for service switch, switch in center position, no issue. Moved switch to right, no issue. Moved switch to left briefly, play control relay energized, popularity meter light went dim, dim bulb test light went bright. Motor did not turn in any service switch position. Motor did scan in both directions when powered directly through reversing switch. Did not test receiver further.

Should I have expected the motor to turn using the service switch? Does the bright test bulb indicate a problem when the control relay energized? Would the test bulb have slowly dimmed?

Hi Steve,
What size lamp is in that dim bulb tester ?
If all AC voltages test good with the lamp, I would assume that since the motor ran connected directly, your lamp is too small, or you have blown the 3/4 amp fuse ? All you did with the Service Switch is pull the play control relay into play position, which adds 110 to the motor circuit ( and the amp, if plugged in). Ron Rich

Thanks for the quick reply. The fuse did not blow. The lamp is 75 watt. What wattage do you suggest?

75 should be OK--One thought--check the mechanism plug-they are famous for loosing the index key on them--be SURE it is installed in the socket correctly !! Ron Rich

Steve, the motor is in stalled condition so its wattage goes way up due to insufficient current to start it. This is because of the bulb in series. There is no need for a limiter once the electronics and low-v coils have been tested. just use a 3 amp main fuse.
