78 RPM Titina

by sentjourn » Fri Jan 19, 2007 8:31 pm

Looking for a copy of a tune called Titina by Billy Jones. Need one on a standard disk not Edison Diamond Disk. Will by or trade.
Thanks

You can play Edison discs on your stereo with a few changes from normal operation:

- You have to reverse the phase of ONE of the stereo pickup channels. Trading the leads to that channel does this. If one channel has a grounding strap to the cartridge shell, switch the leads for the other channel.

- Use the MONO switch on your amplifier or preamp.

- Use the LP/stereo stylus, not the 78 stylus.

- Don't try to drop the record from a changer spindle. It is too thick.

- Use the tone controls to change the equalization. This usually means cutting the bass and some treble boost.

- Don't forget to put things back the way they belong afterwards.

Thanks record changer. I was aware of the process you mention but I would still want to here an acoustic record on my acoustic Victor. :)

I'm not so sure you are going to find it on other brands, unless someone else recorded the song.

Even back then, companies grabbed artists to get people to buy their players. So if this artist signed with Edison, you probably aren't going to find a Victor recording of the same artist and song.

What you might find is a reissue or a new recording made by another company after Edison closed down its phonograph operation.

Billy Jones also recorded it on Banner #1526. That's the one I'm looking for.
