ROWE R86 Jukebox

I Just was given a Juke Box ROWE Model R86 and everything seems to work, lights, etc. but it will let you make a selection but it will not play it. What it does is it will insert a 45 onto the player the arm will come over to play the 45 the arm touches the 45 but then it retracts it self puts back the 45 back into the record slot then it picks it up again and starts to do this over and over and over. So what is the issue here? could use some tech help, Thank you

If it's picking up the SAME record again and again, without spinning the magazine, then your cam switches need to be adjusted. Refer to the manual, and perform te cam switch adjustments on the transfer motor.

Thank You but I don't have a manual to look at, but the blue bag came with allot of extra fuses light bulbs, etc. also where in the hell is the volume at? I cannot seem to fine the volume control switch or know where you can turn it up or turn it down. Nothing on the back that show any evidence of a volume control, the People were moving and did not want to take it with them, hey it was free what can I say. Please don't tell me it is missing a control box to turn up or down the volume, LOL. I sure could use some help I like to get this running, lights look nice rotating.

I would agree with the last post stating the switches could be the problem--if so, and no one has "messed" with it/them, you will need to replace/re-adjust them. However, I would be more inclined to assume that the gripper motor has run out of oil. This is an AC "clutch type" motor, which once out of oil, will not free the clutch soon enough, causing motor "over-run". I strongly suggest that this motor be oiled with 20 wt. ND oil only--saturate the oil wicks several times--put ONE drop ONLY, on each side of the armature shaft to start with.
The volume control should be located on the outside rear of the cabinet--It MAY be disconnected at the top of the "dog house" that covers the amp section--red/black wires---Ron Rich

Thank you for the information, I have ordered a R-86 manual on eBay, just a copy they had a real one but the bid was 56 dollars. anyway again thank you for the help. The nearest repairman that does work on Jukeboxes is about 150 miles from me so he does not make house calls, and he only works on ones that are 1995 and newer (CD's) so he told me I have a Boat anchor. Anyway as for the volume control only thing on the back is the power switch, power cord and a vent for the power supply. Their is a button next to the power switch looks to be maybe a re-set button just guessing here. On the right side is the change box but have no key to it so it is locked for life. the left side has nothing that shows any sign of a volume control. I can't tell from the inside all I see is a circuit board that has screws for external speakers as an option, and also for a remote to control your volume from the bar I'm guessing here. None of these have anything hooked up to it or any signs showing it did other than that pretty solid machine took 3 guys to move this monster. I just wanted to say thank you for any input greatly appreciated for the replies back this is a learning curve for me.

If there is not a small round hole ( about large enough to insert your little finger) in the rear of that cabinet, the volume control IS there!
The push button you found is the record cancel (or reject) button--it may, or may not be connected. The terminal strip you found is for the volume control--either the "local" one on the cabinet rear, or a "remote" unit--both can NOT be hooked up at the same time !
No, IMHO,--you don't have a "boat anchor" there !
One, or two "other things" that could cause the gripper motor to run continuously is the "no record sensing screw", and a defective magnetic, end of record switch assembly ( or for that mater, anything in the end of record circuit that's closed). Ron Rich

Ok as for the sound I think I see what they did, when you open the lid that has your power supply and so forth I followed the red and black wires to the speaker system and they have a knob in the middle of a group of wires and I believe they had this done to control it from the inside instead from the back, I did find the hole but nothing leading to it, also it looks like there never was anything to that hole, no plate or holes drilled into the back maybe it was set up this way. i could not find any 20W ND oil I went to Home Depot and they looked at me real funny, so I found some on Amazon.com but they sell it by the qt. I'm going to have to just wait for the Manual from eBay to arrive it is a copy but that will do. Everything else seems to work fine I just have to get the darn thing to play instead of watching the same record come out to the player the arm comes over and then it moves back inserts the record back they pulls out the same record again and again and again, too funny. I was able to contact the owners and they had to jukeboxes including this one and they did say it worked fine, but they mentioned something about a Bump what ever that means. They other one only needed a fuse and it worked fine, this has some fuses in a bag but I don't see anywhere on this model that it takes fuses.

You found the volume control--yep--it would be my guess someone has moved it from that "hole" to where you found it t keep "children" from adjusting" the volume ?? Home Depot used to carry it as "3inOne (electric)motor oil" in 3 oz. plastic bottles --I've seen it there ! Granger also stocks it that way----many, if not most hardware stores also carry the 3in One product--Do NOT use "Multi-purpose", or "Household" 3 in One !
I have no idea what a "bump" is--'ceptin', 'course, the one on top of my head ??? --and fuses?? I don't recall no stinkin' fuses in that model--lotsa circuit breakers----Ron Rich

I was on another site and they had same problems and they bought a rebuilt Central Control Computer Card and it fixed their problems, but I hate to spend 150 to find out its not the card, but in a way I will have a new card. The place is called A&B Jukebox Repair ONLINE PARTS STORE out of New Hampshire.

I doubt that it was "the same problem"-- ?? If it's the CCC, the symptom is that it plays, one record, then the next, then the next--

Ok then I will hold off on the CCC, I can't find where the oil goes because the back does not come off to get to the back side, interesting. looks like I have to crawl in there, and I have to get new arms to hold up the Door thy no longer will hold the top door open. I have seen these for sale on eBay New at that. So I have to use a broom stick. Hate to have that come crushing down on my head I would look like Garfield hanging from the back of a car trunk.

Well I found a site that you can download the Manual but it said it was taken down, so I will have to wait until my arrives from Ohio off of eBay. Thank you for your replies and helping me trouble shoot this. any other ideal please let me know

"Free downloads" are usually crap--
Oil goes on the gripper motor (the one that won't stop running) armature shaft accessible from the front of the mechanism -- inner oil wick filler is difficult to see but is in exact same place as is the outer--just the other end of the shaft-- Ron Rich

Ok there is oil, now I just need to find out why When I turn on the jukebox, the Transfer Motor starts immediately.
The gripper takes a record from the magazine and put it on the turntable (that has already started to turn).
The tone arm comes in place, and goes back again. The gripper takes the record and puts it back in the magazine.
This happens over and over again.
The CCC 6-08870-6 only shows the 8 vcd light, same thing happens in service mode and i cant choose any selections or anything. So now I'm back to square one. This Jukebox sure makes pretty lights, LOL Dam so any ideals on what to do next?

OK--I guess you have oiled that motor--is the clutch now working or not ??
What is the Gripper(transfer) motor on the MCC doing ??

I can e-mail you a short video which would give you a better ideal. but I don't think you can do that on here, the only way I can explain it is I turn on the jukebox, everything comes on normal, lights etc. The turn table is already turning (running) the arm is already selected a record which is always the same one for some unknown reason. Then the arm that grips the record pulls it out of the track then it places it on the turn table that is always running. The control arm with the needle comes over and sets down on the record just before it plays it automatically lifts up then it retracts back to its holding area, then the arm that has the record then lifts up and places it back into its record slot, and this repeats and repeats and repeats with the same selection. Now the big wheel in the back that holds all 100 45's does not move or try to move in any way. I put a quarter in just for shits and giggles and it said to select two plays, so I did, nothing happened, so I have a lost quarter in the box that I will never get a key for it unless I get a locksmith to come to the house. funny.

Everything else seems to work normal, but I'm not an expert on Jukeboxes I took it to save it from the dump or stripped down for parts on eBay. The people had it in their Game room I paid $100 to have it moved because I live out in the sticks (Woods). They were going to just leave it behind when the house was sold. So you can see why I need an expert on here to at least help me get this working. It's in great shape looks like it has not ever been in a Bar meaning no cigarette burns on the jukebox.
