Seeburg audio problem with TSU-1 Amp board

by Radio Joe » Tue Dec 01, 2009 5:46 pm

Looking for someone with experience with a Seeburg Jukebox model LPC1. I have an amp board, TSU-1, that has a slight “hiss” to the right channel and audio is very weak when playing a record. I have done all the obvious solutions to fix this problem. All new capacitors and verified it is not the speakers or the signal going in. I have another TSU- 1 amp board that has not been recapped and verified that no caps are in the wrong place. It is definitely an issue within the amp board that I cannot find. I am guessing the dual amp transistors on the right channel could be damaged from years of abuse. Does this problem of “ hissing and weak audio” sound familiar to anyone? Am I on the right path here? If so, does anyone know which two of the four mounted transistors are the right channel’s side looking from the top of the board? Looks like a good deal of work to swap out and the transistors are not cheap. Want to see what everyone else thinks before I put in the effort and parts.

Me again with a correction. The Amp board in this LPC1 is NOT a TSU1 but a TSA-1. Different beast. I had someone suggest I swap out the preamp transistors. The ECG102A's , I did and it just got worse. So I am stuck. Does anyone think it could be four power amp transistors? Stuck.

Joe,
What code is the TSA-1 ? Is the "monorlizer" (500mh choke) installed in that amp? I doubt that the outputs are the source of your problem.

I want to say no but I do not know what a Monolizer looks like. If you can just discribe where it would be and what it looks like I can check tonight. I also have noticed, from another tsa1 amp board I have and pictures of others on line, that there is a solid wire with black heat shrink connecting the two pre amp boards in the upper left of the amp. That makes a total of two solid wires connecting the two boards. One with black heat shrink right below the other with no heat shrink. I had taken digital pictures of this troubled amp before I started to make sure I got everything back together correctly. I checked those pictures last night and there is NO second black heat shrink wire in them. But in these two others there are. I am starting to think that there should be even though there wasn't one there to begin with. This second wire actually connects to a terminal where the third ECG102 transistor connects on the troubled right side audio side. Am I reaching here? If so, any suggestions on were to look next? Speakers are good and inputs are good. I swap them around and the noise does not follow. Thanks for any help.

Ok, I just looked on google again and found another TSA1 board that does not have the two mid sized transformers in the lower left hand side of the amp board. Those are the chokes you mentioned before? Mine has two. This new photo I found of this similar amp board Also has a black coated heat shrink wire connecting the same two pre amp boards by the RCA input jacks. Is this more than a outlandish theory now?
