Seeburg A Credit Unit Buzz

by ds100h » Thu May 21, 2015 9:53 pm

Hi

The cancel solonoid is not canceling in the credit unit and creates a constant buzz when you make a selection. The selinium rectifier shows 25 volts. I attempted to hook up my WOM from the other A and for some unknown reason it does not seem to want to work with this A. I have 25 volts at the receptacle that the WOM plugs into, I have 25 volts at the terminal screws on the WOM, yet lights do not light and it will not give you any credits? It worked fine with my other A. Would this indicate the selinium rectifier is weak and needs to be replaced?

I know I also have to check the W contact and the timing relay.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Best
Darrell

Hi Darrell,
You are mixing apples and oranges here--
What are you having problems with the model A keyboard, or a WOM ??

Hi Ron

The trouble is with the credit unit. When you make a selection there iss a constant loud buzzing sound coming from the credit unit caused by the cancel solonoid staying energized. It appears I will need to invetigate the W contact and the timing relay?

I am attempting to see if the selinium rectifier was putting out enough energy by using a WOM that works with my other A to get past the loud buzzing sound. It appears that for some reason the WOM does not now work. I am going to move it back to the other A and see if it still works with that one. WOM was working fine before I moved it.

UPDATE: WOM had loose wire. Now it sends pulse to A, but, no pins trip?

Hi Darrell,
The WOM is totally "independent" of the phonograph--the only possible thing that can happen is one of the stepper wheels has not returned fully to it's home position--this will cause the keys to "stick down" on the phono's keyboard, but not any "Buzz" in the CCU. The WOM does not "use" the 25vdc, it uses 25 vac-- Like you said--check "W" contacts, and -25vdc ( which operates the timing relay in the CCU). Ron Rich

Ron

Lets forget the WOM, I know it works fine witht my other A.

When you make a selection with the keyboard on the jukebox, you get a constant buzzing sound coming from the CCU. The cancel solonoid is not kicking(releasing) and stays energized until you shut the unit off. I suspect either the W contacts or timing relay or possibly the selenium rectifier.

Ron

Is there anyway to test the selenium rectifier to see if it is putting out the proper voltage under load?

I ask this as I am wondering if the selenium rectifier is not sending the proper volatage to the timing relay and therefore the timing relay does not release.

Darrell,
Yea--attach your meter to the rectumfifer, make a see-leck-tion--and watch your meter--
Is the relay failing to "release", or "pull" ??
Did you very carefully, change the cap on the relay ?? Did you change the filter cap on the vdc ??

Thank you. Both caps replaced, carefully is questionable :P . The relay does not release.

Hi Darrell,
OK--It is "held" by the "hold contacts" in the ES--do the buttons "pop-out" ?
By any chance--is the "key" broken off the plug, from the ES to the CCU ?

Ron

Yes, the selector buttons "pop-out".
The "key" is on the plug, from the ES to the CCU.

Hi Darrell,
OK--pull that 8 pin round plug out, after the keys pop out---does the relay still stay energized ?

Ron

On rectifier test I had a strong 25 VDC and when I made a selection the meter stayed at a stong 25 VDC.

After the keys pooped out when selection was made, I pulled the 8 pin round plug and the relay stayed energized.

I hope this does not make it more confusing, when I press a letter button on the WOM nothing happens in the stepper, then when I push a number button a pulse is sent to the stepper and the unit step relay on the left side pulsates. The unit step relay on the right side never reacts to the WOM. (Remember this WOM works great with my other A)

Darrell,
Pull out that 2050 tube !!! Look to see if both step-up wheels/gears have returned to home--once sure they have homed, try a selection, with the 2050 remaining out--
Work OK now ??

Ron

Thank you for all the assistance. Mark stopped over and we pulled the receiver out of the unit. Mark found a bad connection on a wire that goes from the 2050 tube to the #7 wire at the bridge and then the #7 wire goes up to the credit unit. Re-soldered the wire and everything is working as intended. :D :D

Have a great 3 day week end. 8)
