Rock Ola Nostalgia CD8B VERY Low Volume

by mark2474 » Wed Dec 18, 2013 6:41 am

I recently purchased a Rock Ola CD8B Bubbler with the orange components. The jukebox has been sitting for about 10 years. At first, the CD player (CD Pro Player) would just spin a couple of times and return the CD to the basket. I cleaned the lens with a Q Tip and Rubbing Alcohol. The inside of the jukebox was very dusty. After many attempts, it would finally spin the CD and not return it to the basket, but you can BARELY hear the audio. The correct lights are illuminated on the amp and power supply. The rest of the jukebox looks pretty unmolested and original. Diagnostic tests shows the CD Player Communication is good. Does this sound like a faulty CD player? Thanks!

Hi Mark,

I would try a different input into the amplifier or try connecting the connections from the laser to another amplifier to find out if it is the laser or the amplifier that is at fault.

Hi Mark,
I have never seen a player do this (low sound)--which player is installed in your phono ?
BTW, "Cleaning the lens" if a CDM -12 or PRO, according to Phillips, should NOT be done with a "normal, Q Tip", nor should "rubbing alcohol" be used ! These must be cleaned only with a "special made-tight weave" type, "cleaning stick", and Kodak, brand, (Rowe also sells this, under their name) lens cleaner. Ron Rich

Hi, For whats its worth, When I first got my Rockola Nostalgia A and W, my volume was set really low too.... I went into the programming and found that someone had set the internal Amp Limits Min/Max Volume levels really low... I bumped the Max up as high as it would go and set the Min to a good level and the problem was solved. Set-Up 1, 78, 79

Using a mini phono plug/ RCA cable, I used an Ipod as the source for the amp. I made a selection on the jukebox to unmute the amp, and got nada, not a peep. All of the correct fuse LEDs are lit on the amp. It does make a popping/crackling noise when the jukebox is first powered up as the flourescent bulb starters kick on, after that it is just very very faint. I adjusted the volume min/max so it is not that. Is there anyone who repairs these amps? Thanks!

Sorry to hear that your still having problems....

I down loaded and printed this FREE manual from the rockola website when i needed to trouble shoot my Jukebox:

http://www.rock-ola.com/Documents/Maste ... 2_2009.pdf

On one of the first pages in this manual it says that it covers all Nostalgic CD Jukeboxes, Free Play and Coin Operated.

I have a 2004 CD8C and I found this manual to be very helpful.

Amplifier Troubleshooting can be found in this manual on page H - 21

You can try to reset everything back to factory settings by Powering the jukebox off, wait a few minutes, Then hold down the 3 buttons (Resume, Diag, Setup) with your right hand, while at the same time reach around the back with your left hand and turn it back on... continue holding the 3 buttons down while you look at the readout window until it says something like re-setting defaults or something similar...

You can also contact Jorge Rivera, Rockola Customer Service Manager at:
310-328-1306 ext.146
310-328-0869 Fax
jrivera@rock-ola.com
service@rock-ola.com

Additional Rockola manuals can be obtained for Free here:
http://www.rock-ola.com/Pages/Manuals.aspx

I hope this information helps you....
