STD3 - Strange hum & more!

Ok, thanks for the help with my stuck record. Lesson learned, read the manuals (after I get them). Here are a couple of issues that are not a huge deal, but need to be fixed.

1. When turned on after sitting overnight, there is a loud buzzing out of the speakers. The volume control does not effect this. When you press the reject button, the buzz disappears instantly. If you switch the power off for awhile (3-4 hours) and turn it back on, the buzzing will not return.

2. There seems to be a problem with the speakers. The sound sounds like there is a broken wire, it will cut in and out on the right side.

3. The current selection lights. Some do not work. Are they replaceable?

1) probably just capacitors in the amp.. I've had them do strange things when the caps go--like nothing but a ~1khz whine and no audio from the record. It cuts out when you hit cancel because the mute relay kicks on. Caps are easy enough to replace if you have any soldering skills, just read the values off them and order replacements from Mouser if you can't get them locally. Cap the the control center while you're at it. People probably make pre-assembled "cap kits" but you'll get the freshest caps (and it's probably cheaper) if you order them yourself.

2) could be wiring.. cap the amp first and see where you're at.

Yeah, being that its a 1976 I figured that an amp re-cap was in order. i am going to load it up tomorrow at work and let it play for a while and see what it does. I have seen cap parts lists for mouser, anyone have one?

If the sound is "cutting in/out" I suspect that it is an amp problem. This would be especially true if both the top, and bottom speaker on one channel is doing it.
Cap kits are available for that amp, and most jukebox amps. from www.verntisdale.com
I would NOT allow that unit to be "powered up" in that condition, as they are famous for "catching fire". If you are going to work on that model, I strongly suggest that you purchase, and read, a copy of (the late) Tony Miller's SHP amp book (still avail, I think, at www.alwaysjukin.com).
