Seeburg R wont play record

by BryanW » Wed Jan 02, 2013 6:02 am

I am having this problem that I cannot figure out. It will select the record and try to play it but as soon as the needle moves to the record, it seems to cancel. Every selection does this. It does not reset the pin , it just goes to the next one and tries again. I have checked the cancel relay on the back and tried it unplugged. I have adjusted the trip switch plate. Thinking maybe the trip switch itself is bad? Or grounded somewhere.

Any ideas I could try?

Bryan,
Sure--try this--Get out your Service Manual, find the Detent Release Lever and watch it operate. It should "fly-up" at the point of detent, and fall back down prior to the needle reaching the record. If it's failing to return to the "down" position", the problem is internal to that lever. If it is re-energizing, the problem is electrical, - check the Service Manual for the clamp arm switches ( I assume that there is a record installed in that slot ?). If it's not re-energizing, it is a mechanical clutch problem. Ron Rich

Well, finally got it up and running. The problem was a stuck clutch. After disassembling and a thorough cleaning, she plays like a new machine. Thanks for the advice.
