Hello to all! (an introduction)

by operabass78s » Tue Apr 17, 2007 4:40 am

Hello All,

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tim and i've been an avid colletor of early 78 RPM recordings for around 7 years now (started when I was 12, now I'm 19, whew - getting old). I am an early opera and jazz enthusiast, a Red Seal addict, also a self taught singer, composer and pianist. I perform regularly with the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus here in lovely (still snow on the ground, what is it April 20?) Buffalo, NY. I've been a member of the Old Time Victrola Music Message board for some years now - I'm sure there are other OTVMMBers here. I also am the moderator of two Yahoo groups still in their infancy:

The Golden Horseshoe
(so was the Met called before the big fire in the 1890's)
A place to discuss early opera recordings of the 78/cylinder era

and....

AntiqueAudioShare
A recent epiphany of mine. A place for us collectors to trade uploads of recordings in our collections with other enthusiasts. Lets bring those long neglected records into the 21st century.

Well there's a little about me - great to be here.

Welcome aboard Tim. Great to see a familiar "face". Yes there is a couple OTVMMB members floating around here. It's a great board- a bit slower than the other one, but a very informative forum with a much wider international membership, as well as a broader range of subject matter (& no bitchy comments  ) I'm sure you'll enjoy the time you spend here!

Welcome operabass78s! I hope you enjoy your stay!

@Shane (and prolly a bit off-topic from my part): You mentioned "a bit slower"... ofcourse I am very interested in that point in the sense of that I would like to try to do something about that. I assume you mean slow in a "technical" sense. A nice coincidence ;-): I am currently trying to replace the many images I use to build the website with special code to speed things up (CSS), so I hope you will notice an increase in speed the following weeks.

Marcel.

Hi Marcel,
When I say a bit slower, I really meant the number of posts are not as frequent as another board a few of us here also belong to. Being an American based board, with a "mainly" American membership, the subject matter can at times, focus on American machines (ie:Victor's) which are seldom seen here in Australia.
This is a board with a much broader "worldwide" membership, and tends to have more info on machines that I do see time to time out here, as well as quite a few I've never heard of before- which is great! I also love that here you have different sections for electric machines, 78's and cylinders, as well as the vinyl formats. My interests also fall into those catagories, so it's convenient to have it all at one forum.
I've actually noticed lately that membership & posts seem to be on the increase, which is great news for all of us. A few of us from the other board give this a board a little "plug" when we can too. Hopefully that has had some effect on at least a couple new members.
