I am new, so I apologize in advance for any mistakes in my posting...but hopefully, this is a positive forum. The Tone Arm on my new (to me) record player will go over to the record, play for 2 secs, then go back over to the side....it just continually does this. I tried several different records...I tried putting a coin on the end of it (I read that somewhere), but it's definitely some OTHER problem. Any help?
Welcome--no "errors in posting"--just as Matt said--lack of info ! The one "error" you are making, however, is, the "coin on the arm" trick-- this should NEVER be done to any phono--this is about equal to someone putting a high value fuse in a fuse holder because, the original kept blowing. The RCA changers have a little boss near the change cycle gear. It's purpose is to push the trip parts back to their inert position as the cycle drive wheel turns. If this gets bent, it does not push the parts back.
I have seen this happen only once. Someone was turning the turntable backwards (trying to hear the backward part of "stairway to Heaven"). He accidentally tripped a change cycle, and after it started, he turned the turntable backwards and bent the boss.
