Concert Type-B Phonograph ???'s

by undertaker » Wed Mar 24, 2010 3:58 am

Hello,

I recently purchased a Concert Type-B that plays 78 rpm records. This is my first experience with a vintage phonograph, but I can see already that it needs some attention. The Cabinet is in great shape with the exception of some light damage to the grill. It appears to need the elbow where the tonearm connects. There is a small screw there that has been broken out. Also the winding mechanism comes unwound when you let go of the crank handle, I think it may be in need of a rachet spring. Having said all of that I have a couple of questions.

1.) Who made this machine? (Victor, Columbia, Edison, etc......)

2.) Can the above mentioned parts be purchased today?, If so who would I get them from?

Thanks So Much, I am really looking forward to attempting to get this thing playing again. It came with a cabinet full of records and I can hardly wait to here them on a vintage machine.

Regards,
James

Is there a decal or name on it that says "Concert" or is that stamped on the reproducer or sound box? I noted you said it has a grille, which would mean its an enclosed horn cabinet model, as opposed to an outside horn machine.

Is there any chance of posting a few photos. That might help identify it.

As for parts and repair services, there are a number of shop listed on this page under the "Accessories/Restoration" section --

Here a some pics of the machine in question. I has no other labels or stickers inside or outside. I have the grill out now to repair the broken places.
