NSM Prestiege II Animation Lights

by ds100h » Wed Sep 23, 2015 3:32 am

This is the second time the Molex connectors and pins at the power supply and now at the light board have been damaged and shorted out due to an apparent overloaded circuit. The circuit has 36 wedge bulbs that use approximately 2.7 watts each. I need to locate a lower wattage bulb to help resolve this issue. Looking for LED bulbs that can dim and accommodate the flashing and dimming like the incandescent bulbs do.

Appreciate your thoughts on what may be a good bulb to accomplish this.

Second thought is, would it be beneficial to remove every other bulb to reduce the load on that circuit by 50%?

Hello Darrell,

Sorry but I do not know the voltage and wattage of the lamps used on the NSM.
What I can tell you is that the voltage and wattage need to be correct or you will burn out the light contollers or the connections.
On Rowe Ami the lamps required on most of their sound to light units are 14 volts, we found out a few years ago that our supplier was infact supplying a 12 volt lamp or customers were using 12 volt lamps out of fruit machines, the result was burnt out boards.

Alan

Hi Darrell,
Are you sure that they are Molex brand connectors ? If so, depending on which one it is, Molex generally has differing grades of pins.
Might change them to the higher wattage type, or just jump the connectors ?? RonRich

If I know right NSM used wedge-based lamp #2521 which shows these values: 12V, 2.1 W, 180 mA

Hi Hildegard

Thank you for info. Manual merely says 12 volt 2 watt. I have found some # 1112 bulbs that are 12 volt and 1.2 watt that I hope will reduce the load and remedy my problem. Alas, I will just have to live with a dimmer bulb :(

If you are the Hildegard I think you are I want to say thank you for the side glass fand waffel glass for my wife's Rockola 1454. It looks great. Great job of packaging! Hope your vacation was a good one :D

Hi Darrell,

Yes, it seems I am the Hildegard you think I am.
Thank you for the kind feedback. About the packing I will forward to Oliver - he's the one one who can do this so well.
Of course I am happy all arrived well and save and that the 1454 now looks great again.
Enjoy!

Kind regards - Hildegard

Hildegard

It appears you are selling the 2521 bulb too cheap! Here is what an eBay vendor is getting for that bulb:

If I read the auction right, it is the price for 10x #2521.
We would charge about AUS$12.50 if the currency converter is right.
So let's raise prices? :)

Kind regards - Hildegard

Hi Hildegard, Darrell, and all,
You are correct Hildegard--that price is, for 10 "globes"-- I know that vendor, and have always been happy to do business with him, as I am with you and Oliver.

Ron

No need to scroll down, I never said it wasn't for ten bulbs, just that the vendor is selling for more than what you can get them for from other vendors. A vendor is free to price their wares for whatever the market and their conscience will allow. We have seen the evidence of that and there is an on going thread on that subject regarding prices on eBay.

Finally received new bulbs. While replacing the bulbs that were in the unit I discovered that at least 90% of the bulbs were #194 Miniature Bulb Glass Wedge Base - 14 Volt 0.27 Amp 3.78 Watt T3-1/4 Miniature Wedge Base bulbs that were placed in this unit at some point. Explains why a system designed to be used with wedge-based lamp #2521 which shows these values: 12V, 2.1 W, 180 mA was being overloaded. Hopefully, the problem has now been resolved, time will tell :D
