Seeburg LPC480

by ToplessZ » Thu May 05, 2011 5:23 pm

I just got a seeburg LPC480, it supposedly would pick up the record and put it back but not play. Now it just cycles back and forth and does nothing.
Here is a youtube video of it. It makes a lot of noise too? Where should I start?

Topless,
I would suggest that the Service Manual "package" would be the place to start. I would also humbly suggest that my "Seeburg Mechanism Guide" should be of some help. The manual package can be purchased from www.alwaysjukin.com, and I sell the guide directly. If you wish to purchase a copy, please contact me at: ronnnrich@yahoo.com Ron Rich

Ron- I read through your guide and I went ahead and cleaned and relubed the Mech. I put it all back together and it still just scans back and forth and then eventually stops if I made a selection it does it all over again. It never stops and picks up a record. Any section of your guide I should look over.

Do you have the Seeburg Service Manual, and trouble shooting guide ? MY "Mech Guide" is a supplement to the correct Seeburg manuals, that does not cover in detail each "selection system". I hope that you read the "overview" section as well as the mechanical operation section, starting at the start, to at least the LPC- section--and the electrical operations sections---of my "Seeburg Mechanism Guide"--
To do a quick check of the mechanism--1st be sure that the "W" contact is making well, then carefully ( HI VOLTAGE inside !) slide the TCC out far enough to see the relays--using the service switch, start mech scanning, and push relay armatures down while it's scanning Right to Left --it should detent at that point if the mechanism is good--
Let me know and we can go from there-

I did the test and it seemed to detent. It stopped and now its in the "sit and spin" mode. It also pulled a record out about 1/2 inch

Sounds as if the record lift arm failed to "get" all the way up-- is the tone arm free to "swing"? Did you try the "reject" button?
By any chance was the mechanism scanning right to left, when you pushed the relay ?

Yes the tone arm is free to swing. I did wait till the mech was scanning from right to left before I did the test. And I also have pressed the Reject button. no luck. Something I remember also was after moving it the brace arm that keeps the deck lid open had fallen down onto the mech. I didnt open the deck when I first turned it on so when I first powered it up it made a weird noises and didnt do anything, so this is when I opened it and saw the brace jammed ontop of the mech. After I moved it out of the way the mech was free to scan back and forth. Do you think something get bent when this happened?

If you pressed the relay while the mech was moving from right to left, and it detented, you now have it "out of phase". This indicates that the resistor at, or near, the reversing switch is defective ! It should only detent going left to right.
Look at the reversing relay--which way is it "pointed" (at the bottom) ?
Who knows what damage may/or may not, have been done----??

sorry, I did the test when it was scanning from Left to right, I was staring at the back side of the machine when I wrote that reply.

Do you have the amplifier connected ? If so, can you hear anything if you "scrape" the needle with your finger ?
Also, is the record clamp in the"clamped" position, or "open" position ?

Its in the clamped position, the amp is connected and one side of the needle makes noises through the speakers if I rub it, the other side doesnt but it looks damaged

OK--did you try the reject button ? If it does not work and cause the mech to move, check the connections to it--it may be connected on the terminal strip of the TCC, or on the amp, IF, the amp has a "black" and "white" screw connection. Ron Rich

It appears to be connected. When pressed with the power on it activates a plunger that pulls out of a transformer under the keys(where the record letter and number is selected). It doesnt make anything else move though

You are pressing on the "release" button--not the "reject" button--the release button controls the power to the latch bar solenoid--not the detent coil---The reject button is located on the outside rear of the cabinet, near the power on/off switch. Ron Rich
