Rockola 440 No Power

by sread2013 » Sun Apr 14, 2013 7:48 am

Hi, New to the forum and just getting into restoring a old Jukebox from 1969. It's a Rockola 440. The problem is when you turn it on nothing happens. I am assuming the power supply is bad so my question is how does one go about repairing it. I have tested the lights on a standard power supply and they work. COuld it be a bad filter cap?
Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
Welcome--Do you have a service manual--are you saying that the illumination lamps are not working either ? If that's so, and you do not have the skills needed to find that problem, I strongly suggest you get some help--as there are dangerous voltages that can harm you. Ron Rich

Yes, no power for anything - even the lights. I checked all of the fuses since I thought that was the most likely culprit. All the fuses look fine. I read on a blog somewhere that if the filter cap goes that can cause a similar problem.

I hear what you say about the voltages. I just thought there might be some kind of override switch or something I was not aware of. I have the service manual for the 440 and it covers every component EXCEPT the power supply.. strange.

Please, get some help--unless a fuse is also blown, the "filter cap" can not cause this problem--

Might sound like a stupid question but have you checked the plug and fuse itself and power chord, also the filter cap you mention may be the ones that are in the power supply unit and likely on the lighting circuit, if one of these go bad it will trip a fuse on the main supply unit for your house, where are you based?, in Ireland where i live a bad filtering cap will trip the rcd(residual current device breaker). I have seen these filtering caps on most European power supplies not sure about US ones

Plug looks good - to me that is. I ordered another one off of eBay. I should have it in a couple of days and will try it out.
