Seeburg SPS-160 keypad problem

by John Mc » Sun Sep 25, 2011 9:53 am

Hello. I just purchased a Seeburg SPS-160 today and am having problems with the keypad. Let's say I want to play selection 103. The "1" will automatically register twice or three times, so what ends up playing may be selection 111, for instance. I took the keypad apart, cleaned it, put it back together, and tried it again, but I'm still having the same problem. I'm wondering if I need a new control box for the keypad or if there's something I can do to keep numbers from repeating themselves. I should say, too, that the individual keys aren't sticking. Also, the repeating numbers register no matter if I quickly push the button or hold it in. Occasionally, the correct numbers will register, and the correct 45 will play...but I would say it messes up two out of three times, if not more.

Thank you.

That's usually a DES problem--Do you have the Service Manual ?
Do you have a copy of my "Seeburg Microlog Troubleshooting Guide". ? ( I sell it direct--contact me off list, if you wish)
In it I describe the correct method for removing and cleaning the DES.
What happens if you select # 210 ?

No, I don't have a manual. I just bought it yesterday: my first jukebox. So, yes, I would be interested in acquiring one. This morning, I turned it on and plugged in a bunch of selections without the numbers seeming to stick...but then it just played the same song over and over. I can't get it to stop. Turning it off and then back on doesn't do anything. Rejecting the song just makes it start the song again from the beginning.

John,
A Seeburg doing that indicates that the "safety plunger" is either "sticking", or the record is failing to roll all the way into it's slot (wrapped record--record label, or sticker is lose and catching on the separator). Ron Rich

Ron: Thanks. I've been looking online to see where the plunger is located in the jukebox but haven't been able to find that info. Is this something that I could fix, or is it something that would require service? Thanks.

Hi John,
It would be my suggestion to wait till after you have the manual. At that point, the plunger is clearly shown, and can easily be located.
