Ron, I got it all working great, it played great for about 40 plays then it suddenly stopped working. It's humming and it won't scan. I can spin the mech by hand and it will pick up a record and try to play by itself but it doesn't spin the record fast enough . Any thoughts?

It won't scan cause it's "humming"--What is "its" ? If "it's" the motor humming, I would guess that the motor cap has failed--got a cap checker ? If not that, perhaps the motor (would be rare--but does happen)--
If it will scan in either direction, ( flip the reversing switch) it's not the cap or motor-- check the 117vac to the reversing relay--

It will not scan in either direction by itself. Im guessing the "humming" sound is more of a vibration coming from the mech trying to move/scan, but its like its to weak to move. Where is the motor cap located? Is it the Auto Speed Motor Cap in the auto speed unit? or is it the large cap on the top of the mech?

The one on the mech--the autospeed is not in the circuit in scan position (or it should not be !). Ron Rich

ok, Ill try to test it. I have a capacitor farad meter around the shop somewhere. The writing on the cap is all worn off, do you happen to know off hand what the value is for it? And a good place to buy a new one (I usually buy caps from mouser.com )

Common usually is marked with a red dot--1.6 is wired directly to the switch under the cap, the other value is
.65, just like shown in the service manual schematic page-- --Mouser ainna gonna have this cap--I do, contact me off forum if you want one. ronnnrich@yahoo.com Ron Rich

Another thought just occurred--are the "O" contacts making during scan? Ron Rich

Ron, I got the motor cap and replaced it with no luck. It will not scan still. I'm trying to find a diagram that's shows where the O contacts are.. Would a problem with the O contacts happen from normal use?
Also how could I tell if the motor is bad or weak?

Do you have a service manual ? If so, it shows contact numbers on the contact adjustment page. The "O" contact is the one connected to the cap---Be very careful, do NOT "check" with power on !--as that is in the 117vac circuit. In fact, using the manual you should check out the whole 117 vac motor circuit--
Yes, if the contact is "open" in scan/transfer, many motors will stall. and--yes--some contacts "ware" from normal use--
The only sure way to check it, that I know of, is to replace it--

I replaced the motor and did a light sanding on the contacts. I powered it up and it starting working fine then it slowly died, then I manually rotated it and turned it off and back on and its working fine now. The motor I used was really ok'd looking and dirty. Its working but I'd like to get a better motor. Do you happen to have a good one?

If you used "sandpaper" on the contacts, that may be your problem. Sand imbeds in the silver, and prevents good contact being made. Silver contacts, if not pitted, or burned, need to be cleaned with a burnishing tool only.
Yes, I have good, tested, motors in stock. Contact me at:ronnnrich@yahoo.com , if interested. Ron Rich
