Rowe R83 Selection Problem

Hi

A few months ago I picked up an R83. It has been playing fine and Mark got the animatioon lights working. Now it refuses to play any selection you enter with the keyboard? At random times it will spring into action and go play a song that it decides needs to be played? Then it will park and later spring into action and go and play another record of its choice. Very disobedient

The keyboard makea selectrion light is on. It will display the numbers you enter and that is the end of the story.

Any direction of where to look to problem solve this issue would be appreciated?

Hi Darrell,
AMi's of that vintage suffer from poorly designed "plugs/sockets", IMHO. They used round "pegs" on the headers, and square "pins" in the slide-on PC board plugs. All headers from the keyboard through the pricing board, to the CCC, MUST be checked for cold ( "dry") solder joints. Pins should be removed/cleaned/re-formed, before re-installing--this IZ a real PIA, but I know no way out of it, if you want "reliability". If that does not fix it--you have CCC problems.
The random play is probably because the "play stimulator" is switched on--

If it is the CCC do you repair them or know someone who does?

I do rebuild the CCC, using the new program chip--

Hello Darrell,

If your jukebox is indeed a R-83 then the boards inside it are the earlier electronic Cmos boards that were used in the R-80S, RI-2, R-81, CTI-1SC, R-82 & R-83.

They comprise of the following main boards:-

Memory Unit 301-07855
Mechanism Control 401-06905
Selector Logic 601-08060

I was afraid that this model still used the components--but I was not sure, when they went to a CCC--Sorry 'bout that !
However, the answer is still the same--check "plugs" first !

Replaced a burnt resistor on the Memory Unit 301-07855 board. Troubleshooting manual shows: After selector button 3 is pressed the magazine does not rotate. Watching the "Data" and "Clock" LEDs on the memory unit they do not flash after the third digit is pressed. If threy do not flash replace logic unit and retest.

That is all well and good if you have a working logic unit. Anone have a working Selector Logic 601-08060 unit they want to part with? Or is there anyone that repairs the Selector Logic 601-08060 board?
