Rockola 1422 blowing fuses

I have spent the last several months doing a "sympathetic restoration" on a 1422. Machine was working fine until one of the cancel Solenoids started smoking in the coin assy. Purchased a free play plug to override the coin mech and now the 3 amp fuse blows almost immediately. This thing is driving me crazy. When it works (for one or two selections) sound is great through the newly re-capped amp. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
