Rob,
What would "spellcheck" have to do with it ??

Look at it again..........

Hint: "Mental" Back Door.

That speaker grill was available new thru at least the 60's, or later, (maybe in a form of plastic, as I seem to re-call ?)--widely used by Seeburg's BGM division, speaker installations--

I didn't know those 12" grills were available that long. Of the 30+ I've owned and all that I've seen, all were pot metal.

I thought that Seeburg went all 8" for ceiling speakers beginning with the 222
. I took over a large 1963 paramount (maker) Diner that had 16 white button Consolettes and 4 Channe1 1 and 2 grilles but no speakers. Wiring was there so I added them..

That diner ended in ignominy -"blown up" for a TV show. Actually it is there today though used for something totally different. It was called the Deerhead Diner in Queens NY At the time of its destruction it was completely original 1963. One section even had the large grease circle from the trunnions on which it traveled.

Reading some of the stories has been fun! I suppose we all have some.

First jukebox was an AMI Continental 2. It was in 1971. I bought it right from the local AMI dealer, Garrison Sales, here in Phoenix. It was really nice and they had shopped it out. It was $150 that we could hardly afford but we did. They kept trying to sell me a weird machine that looked silly. It played the records in a vertical position on a chrome flywheel or turntable. I wanted no part of that, probably would never, ever be reliable playing a record like that. It was named Seeburg!

Once in an ad or somewhere I found a 1950's Seeburg Jukebox advertised in great condition. I believe it was $50.00. This was probably in the mid-seventies. There was only an address not a telephone number. The thing was a great distance but I wanted it. Off I went to get it. I finally got there and found it, a 3W1 wallbox. I don't remember the condition. I was buying them and other stuff in good condition, from a guy in Hatch, New Mexico, in those days, for $25.00 each and he delivered them. UGH!

I suppose the worst disappointment was the Wurlitzer 850 I found here in Phoenix for $350, another newspaper ad, also about the mid-seventies. So the wife and I get going on that (she was not too happy about the prospect of another old jukebox). It was nice and had coin gear but something was missing, maybe the amp or speaker, I forget. It was also very BIG and Very Ugly to my wife. We had a heated discussion for sometime but this was one (and remains the only time) she just hated it. For future domestic harmony and not wanting to get a lump on the head, I lost on this one. In those days we really could not afford that machine anyway. I remind her of that incident to this day. I've had and have other nice machines but I still see that nice 850 sitting in that old house.

By the way - I can't buy anymore jukeboxes. My wife is getting too old to load em anymore! Don't tell her I said that! She has been a great partner in all this stuff for many, many years!

Mike sells a lot of parts on eBay and is known in the jukebox world in the mid-west area at least. That is one of the first "metal" back doors for a Seeburg DS I have seen listed on eBay.

I have had a good and fair experience purchasing from him.

Yea, but Darrell--
Your friend did not get an updated HSC-1 unit with a push button "dial"???. Hopefully he got one with at least a SR-300 receiver installed in it ? Plus, was his re-finished, as are these ?? Ron Rich

Ron

The woman who sold him the unit said her father worked for Seeburg and he had purchased it new from Seeburg, (I would guess he received whatever the employee discount was) as such the unit was in the family from day 1. It came with all manuals and did not need to be re-finished as it was like new! I think he got extra parts with it also, but I do not recall the updated push button dial. Also not sure what receiver it has, I know he enjoys it very much.

Hi Darrell,
Best advice on those is to "oil the play motor"--both cups--at LEAST once a year-20 wt oil--they ARE thirsty !! ( and NLA, as far as I know !)

Thanks Ron I've found it now. It amazes me how many people don't proof-read their eBay listings before or even after posting.

The number of times I've seen "dukebox" in a description, but that's usually by people who don't know any better.

It wasn't long before another over-priced "Dukebox" appeared on eBay.

Hi
I don't even think its advertised as working, I have come across a few of these before and in all cases you get problems with the triacs in the control centre.
What about this one its a NSM with the picture of the NY skyline on the front, definitely overpriced...http://www.adverts.ie/other-music-instr ... sm/9610668

Yes another daft price, it's an NSM innit?

£500 at most.

Yes its a nsm city type, no indication that its even working, the problem with the daft prices is that when people see it they think..... .wait a minute I've got one like that that's the price i'll sell it for, so you end up with people following each other like sheep

Idly looking through eBay, I came across this, on offer for £4,250. That's $6,127 for our "colonial cousins."

It's been "rechromed" according to the vendor, but I don't go a bundle on the quality of some of the work.

Surely those blemishes weren't under the original chrome?

It looks as if it needed more prep work for that sort of money.

Edited to change the £ sign to $ as "some people" have no clue as to exchange rates!

You're still "colonial cousins," well... As long as you're still using our language.
Oh Hang on!

Isn't Spanish becoming the "official language" now?

Being serious, what did you think of the re-chromed plating around the dome glass?
