Modification?

by DoghouseRiley » Thu Jan 28, 2010 3:48 pm

Doodling on YouTube I came across this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqb0RiaqmWs

This jukebox, the same model as mine has a switch activated by the closure of the lid.
Mine hasn't. Will it have been a modification?

The guy has a problem but has had no responses. I've posted a couple of links but they haven't appeared.

Hi,
That was my video. My juke is now working, but I forgot to delete the video. The reason it wasn't working was because the gripper arm had been jammed (Ron Rich helped me out on that one). The switch on the lid seems sort of pointless. If the scan switch is in the off position, the jukebox will only operate if the lid is closed (or if your finger is on the switch with the lid open), but if the scan switch is in the 'operate' position the switch has no effect on anything. I think the switch is an original part. The sheath on the wiring matches the rest of the wiring inside the jukebox. There is also a small tag dangling from the switch with a safety warning about not connecting the switch until all packing materials have been removed. Here are a couple of pictures: http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/5699/1000473h.jpg

Hi Guy's,
Just a WAG here--I think that's a "keep up with the Jones' switch". Around that time AMi, Wurlie, and Seeburg had a service switch that was operated by the lid closing. The reason for that was, earlier models had the switch that needed to be hand operated--and "route collectors", would forget to place it back in the operate (or play) position--thus generating (MANY) a service call ---Ron Rich

Hi Ron,

You are correct with your comment re the collectors causing service calls.
In the mid 70's before I became self employed the company I worked for had loads of different collectors that covered the route that I serviced.
What with the collectors not seeing that records were dinked out of centre, warped or leaving the jukeboxes unlocked and the company's security personnel putting faults on machines (that only happened once I reported that security guy tothe MD and the Brewery for wasting company time and lost revenue on a busy site)

Did you ever have the situation when the company replaced machines on site and took out a fully working machine and left a none working machine for the service engineer to sort out?

Regards
Alan

There's a similar round hole in the casing of mine, but it would appear than no switch had ever been installed or if one had, all trace of the wiring has been removed.
