Seeburg STD2 carriage reversing issue

Standing in front of the unit, when the carriage scans to the left side, the reversing switch should touch the reversing switch bracket, operating switch and causing it to throw in the other direction. This is not happening.

Looking in the manual under "Reversing switch 1" - switch brackets, there is a manual adjustment to change the position of the switch bracket.

I seriously doubt the bracket has ever been adjusted and see no need to do so now... further, it's extremely unlikely that the bracket has been damaged by the action of the switch hitting it, and in any case, it's the specified distance (5/16") offset. Do I need to do a "reversing Switch 2" -- contact gap pressure adjustment?

I assume that you are standing closest to the record rack, not the carriage, and that "left" is the 100 record end of the rack--(despite what the service manual says for that model the "front" of the mechanism, for ME, is still where the switch plate is --they turned it around starting in the late 60's, but only on 160 select models).
What, egg-zact-ley, is happening ?? Did this just start happening ? Did you just acquire this phono ? Did "someone" "work on it" ?
If the phono motor is stopping, or it is continuing to run, but the clutch is "jumping"--
If that's the case, I would first look at the four 9/16 nuts that hold down the main casting. These nuts should be at the top of the studs, which allows the whole mechanism to float. Next, I would remove the program glass and scan the carriage down to the 100 end--is the cover clearing the wires on the upper front side of the mechanism ? If no problem there, remove the rear cabinet door and check in front of the mech--I have seen the get "stuck" on the speaker wires running near the floor. ALSO, VERY Im-pour-tant !! Check the "toggle" that rides under the TMU--it must not bind, and MUST ALWAYS, be set in the correct position for the direction traveling !! --and the pop meter-has it "jumped" out of it's holder ( needs human help for this !!) Hi Ron, the phono is new to me. As for it's history... it's anybodies guess.

Everything is intact, nothing appears to have been monkeyed with as far as adjusting the mech goes. I rebuilt the DCC over the weekend.

I found that in leiu of solving an issue, a previous individual decided to wrap some wire around 100 side switch bracket so that the reversing switch would actuate. But hey - that's better than having them try to adjust everything they could get their hands on.

I'll check your other points tonight.

That being the case--look VERY CAREFULLY at the rev. switch itself--look at the "limiters"--often I have found them bent well beyond where they should be -- SOME service manuals show them in the art work-----they should be set so they limit the paddle travel to the minimum--once the "rubber stops" are adjusted per specs.
