value of an edison disc player single spring motor

by thislilpig » Wed Aug 25, 2010 6:35 pm

I was wondering if anyone out there knew the approximate value of a good used single spring motor that I removed fron an edison LC 38 disc player. I also have the horn assembly from the machine. if anyone could tell me anything about how to price that as well I would much appreciate it! the cabinet of this machine was beyond repair, but I got some good used parts from it. Thanks in advance!

I've seen the complete works with horn sell on ebay from anywhere between $20 to $100. I guess it just depends who's after one at the time, & how many people are after one at the same time.
New DD springs are about $35 I think, so IMO a complete motor is worth at least that, but then other parts seldom wear out in these, so there's probably not much call for "spare parts" as such, making most of the motor a little useless to most people. If your bedplate paint is in exceptional condition, there's also a chance someone may want it to replace one they have with damaged or peeling paint. Replacement horns are sometimes needed too, as the cast horn mounts can sometimes come away from the horn if they receive a hard knock, so having the horn is probably a bonus. Also, you'll often hear of people finding empty cabinets who are after a complete motor.
Unfortunately, the LC-38 only had the small no.100 horn, so that sort of limits it's use to the lower end models.
If it is one of the later motors, with 3 governor weights &/or 10/12 selector buttons, there might be a more specific although smaller group of buyers interested, so you may get a little more for it, but again I think it really all depends who's looking for one at any given time.
