Leak 2000 tuner/amp

by DoghouseRiley » Sat Dec 03, 2011 7:11 pm

About three years ago I was bangin' on about this, my Philips 790 tuner/amp that I'd bought new in 1972 and how great it's been, as well as a matching turntable, it also serviced a cassette tape player, a DVD and I could run the TV thought it. It wasn't used that often but it was "always there."

Sad to say, I guess one of the output transistors, or something in the line went belly up as one side the sound became distorted unless I put it on mono.
The cost of repair would have been prohibitive, so last year I bought this 1970's Leak 2000 on eBay for the princely sum of £32.
It uses the same din plugs as the Philips, so it was just a case of swopping them over. It has more bells and whistles, front and rear switches, inputs and outputs than I'll ever need and the reproduction is superb. It still doesn't get used much, but again it's "there" if I need it.
It amazes me how inexpensive such quality equipment can be, is everyone fixated on DAB radios now?
