first old gramophone ever.. how to find the right one ?

by wiaderko » Sun Sep 19, 2010 6:38 pm

Hi!
I'm still newbie (second post). I'm looking for my first old gramophone ever (hmv , victor or so.. ). Could You maybe give me some advice where could I look for it? I'm serching for it on ebay every day, going through all the auctiones. Unfortunatly most of them are not in very good working condition or little bit overpriced... or made from parts that do not match. So it's not very safe place to buy it at start.. I think.. or maybe I'm wrong ?

So should I:
- carry on seraching for it on ebay?
- search for private person who collects gramophones? ( maybe You know aybody)?
- look for auction houses?

where else can I find gramophones ?
I'd be gtareful for all the informations. What i'm trying to find is a nice gramophone with horn and good sound.

Thanks for all advice.

I live in east part of europe (poland) , we don't have any collector meetings here , it's hard to buy in person.. support is also limited.

Hello Paul,

Yes keep looking at Ebay but if you know what type of make or model you require then search on www.google.com for all the information you can find on that model, it should list auctions that may be comming up or dealers that stock the item.
You will be able to see what sort of price you may have to pay.

Hi All,
I don't deal in these, however I assume it is the same for these as it is for my area-jukeboxes, when it comes to eBay.
There are MANY descriptions of jukes that just make me laugh. Either the writer has NO idea of what he is saying, or he's just a liar.
Do you remember the old Johnny Cash song--"One piece at a time" ? Well, if you do, then you know what I see in jukes, about once a week. Since "Gramophone's", are mostly older then jukes, I would assume that it is worse in this field ?
Bottom line still is--Buy from a reputable dealer, and you will get what you pay for--buy from eBay--and you are taking a big "chance" ---Ron Rich
