Rockola 468 Remote Volume Control

by TinkerV2 » Thu Mar 15, 2012 2:26 am

Hi all,
I've been enjoying the juke since I got it working. The location we've decided to put this console makes it difficult to get to the rear controls. A perfect solution was to install a remote volume control 2156-1. Pretty straight forward installation. I didn't like the looks of the remote control pendant so I made my own. I used 3 momentary push buttons. One for volume up, one for volume down and the other for eject. I used a couple of 0.1mf caps on the up/down pb's to eliminate contact noise. Works great and happy with the looks. I've read that some remotes have a switch to power the juke on and off. There is also a connection on the terminal strip for it (phono on-off) where the remote hooks up. I can't for the life of me figure out how to hook this function up though. I've traced this wire to the power supply where it terminates in a 15 pin connector labeled "motor volume control jumper plug". It dead ends there and doesn't connect to any jumpers. Since the volume and eject buttons connect to "com" when pushed, I assume that a switch for the "phono on-off" would also connect to "com" since it's the only source available at the terminal strip. I'm guessing that this switch doesn't actually power the whole juke on and off. Maybe just the amp or something. Anyone know about this? Or how to hook it up?
I know I've been kinda long winded but wanted to explain as much as I figured out so far.

Thanx guys!
Regards,

I am not familiar with that model R/O, but most of the "remote on/off switches", were powered by an added 24vac transformer, that was left live at all times. It had a relay connected to it, and the relay coil power was sent thru an external on/off switch. Ron Rich

For a remote on-off function, the juke must be fitted with the optional remote power unit. It bolted to the bottom floor of the jukebox.

Thanks Ron & Ken,
According to my manual the 2156-1 kit is the remote volume control with on/off switch. I bought the motorized volume control unit but didn't get any other parts from the kit. I assumed that the only other part would be the remote pendant (cable and switch box). Well we all know what happenes when you assume. :? There must be other parts that I'm not aware of. Like the remote power unit or relay you guys mentioned. The manual lists a 2173 motorized volume control with out on/off switch. That's why I got the 2156. The manual mentions a 49794 installation instruction for the 2156. That might be helpful but I haven't been able to find that. I'm sure I can engineer a relay and transformer to make this all happen but was curious of how Rockola designed this function. I'm sure it was the rest of the kit I don't have. I'll have to quit assuming and do more investigating.

Thanx again! :)
