I like those machines, if they're the ones that light up red they remind me of the amityville movie. I would expect to pay less than that however. Also I find one persons definition of "works great", is not often mine!

It must be worth £1,000 easy - it takes them hard to get hold of 6 inch records!!!!!

Those Crossleys (and Steepletone - same company perhaps?) players are UTTER garbage. They have NO redeeming features. A breeze block would make a better phonograph. They destroy records!

Out of curiosity (and the need for a portable record player) I bought a battery powered steepletone player for testing 45s. Tried a few 45s, and it skipped several times on perfectly good records. The amazon reviews also showed others with the same issue. I returned it, lesson learned!

The sad thing is for the layman they appear OK, and are sold as something to get you back into vinyl and play your old records. I wonder how many buy these and therefore decide that vinyl sounds terrible and then give up on their collections. Most decent decks produced these days require preamps and a hifi amp and speakers which is daunting for many people in todays age

Psyc, earlier this year I found a USB T-T with a magnetic ADC cart at a thrift shop on the west side. It was still in-box, probably an unwanted Christmas gift.

That was sold (for what I paid ($35) to a young female who works as cashier at one of my locations. While I generally don't bother with this sort of device, it does represent a "decent" compromise IF the table uses a magnetic and has at least an adequate arm.

She and her b-f love it since they have been buying records at flea markets etc and only had one of those crap Crosley things. It works well in that it is used directly with a computer and allows easy conversion to MP3 for phones or 'Pods.
