National Rejectors Slug Rejector Help Needed

I have a National Rejectors Slug Rejector that works EXCEPT it rejects all dimes.. I don't know if the numbers on the label have any meaning/

I looked through a bunch of my Seeburg Manuals, and National manual, and can't find anything that looks
like this rejector.

Can someone ID this rejector, or let me know where the adjustment(s) for the dimes are?

I can't get the dime section photos to open?

Yep--Dimes are supposed to be rejected when it's set like that--
On the back side (the side with the paper sticker on it) --look at the bottom--count the screws from the bottom up--Do NOTHING with the bottom one (#1)--see screw 2 ? loosen it and run the "adjustable lever" as far to the right as possible, leaving just enough room for the flat portion to "swing". See the next screw up (#3), loosen it and push that anvil all the way to the left. That should do it as long as the rejector dime path is clean-- Ron Rich

Is the back the one with the small label at top, or two labels near bottom?
If you mean the small label at the top (81-16-344 01-74-02,
I have a picture with the labeled screws as I think you described. Did I get them correct

Dime still dropping through reject, may I need the VERY Hot Water Cleaning instead of the hottest water I can stand.

What can I say--yep that's them--looks to me that the flipper at screw 2 is still all the way left ?? It also must be free to "flop"--

I didn't take a picture after I moved that lever.
I will try to clean again tomorrow with the "Extremely Hot Water", and see if that helps.

When I work on these on the odd accasion I strip them down fully and wash the parts in soap water, dry off (usually under an hand drier) I then check for wear especially on the triangle shaped peices on the bottom of the coin mechanism.

Back in the old days in the field we used to use Brasso (metal polish) on the coin mechs to stop them jamming up.

I will try BRASSO after I complete my EXTREMELY HOT WATER cleaning.

I am about to work with simple green now, and then a few rinses.

I bet the red plastic "serration detector" in the dime track is bent/jammed. You have to remove the dime track cover to see it.

I used to rebuild these coin acceptors all the time. Found these mostly in Seeburg jukes and in cigarette machines.

I think the spring on the dime scavenger may be weak.
I will try putting an extra "wrap" on the spring, and see what happens - if it dont get broke
(but hey, there aint no magic smoke to release)

Yes, the red plastic by the white arrow. If that cover assembly is removed, you should see a tiny red plastic part with a metal wire molded into it. That hits the serrations on the side of the coin to slow it down properly and feed it to the "accept" hole. One thing disturbs me though. In that same picture where you have a squiggly yellow line, There is a shiny screw on the far right that I don't think is supposed to be there. It looks like that screw is holding that spring loaded gate open enough to reject dimes.

That National Rejector coin acceptor you have was extremely common here in the Pacific Northwest. It takes USA and Canadian coins without jamming. This acceptor was used in Automatic Products "Smokeshop" cigaratte machines (also in their "Candyshop" candy machines), some Rockola jukeboxes, some Wurlitzer jukeboxes, some Rowe-Ami jukeboxes, and some Seeburg jukeboxes. Since we are near the Canadian border, these National US/Canadian coin acceptors were prefered by many vending and amusement route operators here because they would not jam when somebody stuck in a Canadian coin.

I believe this acceptor was known as the "8100 series". It saw a lot of use on our route and they got dirty fast. I always had a freshly cleaned and adjusted one ready to swap out when needed. I was the only one in our shop who cleaned and rebuilt these coin acceptors.

They were standard equipment in the "Smokeshop" cigarette machines until about 1982 when they switched to supplying only CoinCo brand acceptors. That was a big mistake on Automatic Products' part as the CoinCo acceptors were always breaking or falling apart on location causing service calls.

I think that the screw (mentioned earlier), all the way over to the right, is the problem. It appears to be holding the gate open. That gate must be held against the main casting, or the "shelf" the dime rolls on will not catch it. I would remove that screw, check inside for "burrs", -----NOT "add a turn to the spring" -- and see what happens. (When you open the gate to check for burrs, you should see a slanted shelf that should catch, and funnel the dime to the left--to the anvil ). Ron Rich
