Seeburg AY160 does not return Needle after 45 has played

by morningwood » Thu Jul 03, 2008 4:34 am

I bought the Artist of the Week JB because I fell inlove with it at first site - but!

Each record will play till the end and then sit ... the needle does not return to initial position until I manually reset it from the back.

Is there a quick fix?

Most likely, either the microswitch just to the left of the pickup arm is no longer working, or is very out of adjustment.

It's covered in the service manual. Pickup 10, 11, and 12.

Quick fixes--
You most likely don't want to change the "adjustments", unless someone has "messed" with them. 90 % of the time, one of the two wires has broken off the tripswitch--just resolder it. 5% of the time, that problem is caused by someone knocking the "counterbalance spring" off the lever (most of the time, it will remain on the bottom hook. Just place it back on the lever ). 3% of the time, somone has "re-adjusted" the upper switch "stack". 1% of the time it's a dirty/bad switch. 1% of the time it's a clutch problem--I think that's 100%---
If you get to the point that you feel "adjustment" must be done, follow the manual, step by step, as this can be a real tricky set of adjustments to get right !

Also check for loose screws in the switch stack.
