Help with Seeburg LPC-1

by coderedfilm » Wed Aug 28, 2013 5:54 pm

I was recently given a LPC-1 by a friend. It powers up and when you make a selection it pulls the appropriate record, puts the needle down, spins it up, and you can even hear the needle hit the record, but then returns it to the slot without playing it. Moves onto the second selection and does the same before scanning the rack twice and returning to its home position. I own a Rowe CD100 so these are REALLY foreign to me. Any help would be great.
Thanks! Kris

Hi Kris,
Welcome !
That's a common mechanism problem on machines that have "sat" for awhile. I cover it fairly well in my "Seeburg Mechanism Guide", but the short story is the clutch yoke, and/or, the clutch lever, has frozen to the pin. ( if you would like to purchase my mech guide, PM me) Ron Rich

Thanks! The clutch seems to spin up ok and it ALMOST starts to play the record before returning it like in the video i posted. Could one of the micro switches maybe not making contact? Ive noticed when it does start to spin right before returning the record one of the switches sparks a tiny bit when making contact. I can post another video of that if it helps

Hi Kris,
Not relevant--the key to this problem is hearing the "popularity meter clicking twice". Once that happens, I know darn well that the clutch pin is the problem--

I've got a habit of buying up cheap jukeboxes everytime I run across them... so I've got several 60's and 70's Seeburgs like this in storage, when I pull them out and start going through them I'm going to buy your book Rich. I've worked on those mechs before but it's always good to have detailed instructions from a man who can TROUBLESHOOT BY SOUND, lol!
