Dad's Dual 1009 F

by Dual Powered » Mon Aug 28, 2006 6:09 pm

:( I could cry. After lugging my Dad's antique Dual around the country as carry-on (no small feat), I have damaged it here at my house. Fortunately I don't think its anything major. I foolishly taped the tone arm down during travel to ensure it did not fly free, but the tape I used was too strong. When I lifted the tape off the platter, the film that goes over the metallic portion of the platter, lifted off and formed a wrinkle. I don't think its effecting the playing ability, although this wrinkle is slightly raised. Should I try to melt this plastic back into a smoother surface, just leave it alone or shop for new a platter? I love this piece of equipment and very disappointed to have scarred it. I thank all of you in advance for your assistance. One last thing, is my old Phillips AF-777 worth saving?

That film was supposed to be removed at the time your dad first put the Dual into service. It was there only for shipping purposes, to protect the metal trim ring from handling inside the factory and on the truck to the store.

It's just like the film they put over the buttons on a new microwave oven. I just noticed and peeled mine off after using the microwave for 9 years. The buttons were getting a little wrinkly, and I found out why.

Wow!! That film had been on there for 40 years. When I removed it, I noticed it had lost its transparency. Thank you. I feel much better.
