Zenith HI FI Stereophonic Phonograph

by Drizzolbud » Wed May 12, 2010 4:40 pm

I have this phonograph and speaker cabinet that I acquired from my grandparents. I cannot find a model # on the phonograph itself but the users manual says SFD220. It has 4 speeds, a tube amp, two 12"speakers, one 5" speaker and one 3.5" speaker. The speaker cabinet does have model # SRD20 on the back. It has one 12" speaker, one 5"speaker and one 3.5" speaker. I have tried looking up info on this but cannot find anything. I do find SDF220M but it does not look like mine. Mine has a lifting or tilting top, not a sliding top. Can anyone give me any information like year of manufacture of what it may honestly be worth. I know it worked when I got it which was over 10 years ago. Thanks for your help.

This is a two-piece "companion" model from about 1959. They should actually be separated by about 6-10 feet for good stereo effect. If it has a radio (can't tell from the photos), it will be mono. FM Stereo Multiplex didn't show up until 1962 - by which time this turntable was discontinued, replaced by another VM changer called the "Micro-Touch 2G".

Does the extension speaker also have its own tube amp, like some Webcor models I've seen? These old relics just truly amaze me with their styling.

There's got to be some documentation somewhere about these different manufacturers and their "all-in-one" console units and why they think their products should be #1 choice for home use as compared to others. The young bucks don't know what they're missing. Consoles may not appeal to the hardcore audio nuts and discriminating listeners with their $10,000 turntables, but these consoles actually have some decent sound. I enjoy turning on one of my "kitchen" Maggies while slinging pots, pans and skillets up in this camp. Good therapy...LOL --BB

Hello,
Merry Christmas, to you, coming very soon.
I am writing to you as I have a Zenith Hi-Fi stero phonograph console, with AM/FM radio. It looks very similar to yours. I was wodering to find out where I can get more info on this product. It dates back to 1958 or '59 when it was brand new. It was a gift to my Parents, who are now deceased. I do not have any photos now, but I can send you some later. Please help me with this matter. Write to me at: lynnterrystern@yahoo.com.

Thank you for your help.
