'50's Newcomb R12 maroon cased record player

by Radiotvnut » Wed Feb 02, 2011 1:16 am

During the '50's, Newcomb made many versions of their model R12 classroom record player that was housed in a maroon case. I'd like to buy one of these maroon cased model R12 Newcomb record players. It does not have to work; but, I would like it to look decent. I have one of the newer gray cased versions; so, I don't need that one. I'm only looking for the maroon R12.

Don't know if you're still interested, but there's one on the San Francisco Craigslist for $30...

Radiotvnut,

Have you tried the Thrift Stores and Salvation Army? We have one thrift store here that puts all the unsaleable items out in the "Bone Yard". I picked up an Astro-Sonice TV/Radio/Phono combo for $5.00. Some punk ripped out the speakers and crossover (probably for a screaming guitar amp), but the rest was intact.

I remember some of the NewComb stuff. My art teacher had a small portable with the 6x9 front mounted speakers, and we also had those stereo models that had two cabinets with 12" dual-cone woofers which clasped together to make one carrying case, while the turntable/amp in a different cabinet. They were loud!

Did the classroom recordplayer look anything like this? This is unit is not that old and has a simple amp with one (I think) 12AX7? tube

I apologize...you were looking for a specific unit, but was trying to get others to chime in just incase they have a similar unit. Should they be looking, or have in their possession, anything similar to my pic? That may help you. --BB
