Seeburg m100c stuck

by 393clevor » Sat Dec 10, 2011 10:25 pm

it gets stuck on one recored and just plays it over and over again... it will cycle the 45 back to the holder then back onto the carriage and play it again.. if you push on the carriage when the 45 is placed back into the holder it will move to the next selection and play that one over and over...

Any help would be great... Thanks steve..

Steve,
Do NOT "push" the record--it is gravity feed, and should just follow the lift arm down.
Do you have a service manual ? If so, find the "safety (plunger) lever". Play a a record and see if it's "sticking"--It should cross the record path just after the record falls back into the rack. You can trip the record and turn off the motor power and use the spring switch to move the motor slowly, watching what i happening. If you have not done so in awhile, use a few drops of the proper oil on that shaft ( as well as the whole mechanism !). Ron Rich

I'm not pushing the record it falls into it's holder just fine... what happens is it keeps loading the same record over and over again never moving to the next selection... when the record drops into the holder I push on the side of the carriage "very slightly" and it will move to the next selection.. then play that one over and over again back and forth from the holder to the carriage..

Steve,
Did you find the safety plunger ? Have you moved this machine recently--or "bounced it" ? If you do not answer my questions my train of thought goes "off track"-- Ron Rich

When I had a similar problem and it proved to be a stuck clutch mechanism from years of no maintenance and the old lithium grease they used at that time hardened and the clutch would not work. Ron guided me through that cleaanong and oiling job and my machine is working fine now. Listen to Ron and he will get you to where you want to go. :)

OK--STOP--do NOTHING more, as you WILL cause more damage !
I suspect that you have "bounced" the contact block out of it's holder--almost positive, if the phono was set down on it's back !
You will need to purchase a Service Manual, and re-position the block within it's holder, as shown. This should have been done "yesterday" as you now have too much "pressure" on that assembly, and they do bend, and are ( for just this reason) in short supply. This is why a Seeburg ( and other brands) should be bolted down totally, as per instructions in the manual, prior to moving.
If you do not want to tackle this yourself, call someone who is familiar with the 100 mech. This can be a simple 30 second job, or it can take hours to straighten out bent "pot metal"--- and re-align EVERYTHING---

Since you have the manual--check the "index" page, and you should see why you think "some pages are missing"--
If you have page 2120 the contact block, Less support, is shown. Page 2211 shows the support arm( item 23) and the drive bkt, and support (64-65). There may also be other places in the manual that it's shown-- Ron Rich

I have an earlier manual--look around in yours--first part is where the show how it works--second part is the "parts" section

I'm starting to understand how this works... the part you are talking about is in the top area that has a light which indicates the letter/number.. by the sounds of it the contact plate you are talking about is out of adjustment and that why it works when I nudge the mechanism... it will go to the next selection play it and when it drops the record back into the holder it should move the mechanism to the next selection but it dose not it just repeats the same record.. I'm I starting to understand??? I read how the pins work when you push the buttons to select a song, is that what the contact block uses to controls where the mechanism stops... It's easier for me to fix something if I understand how it works..

BTW thank you so much for all your help...

You are welcome--And yes,"understanding" is true for me too, and the main reason I wrote the "Seeburg Mechanism Guide".
Unfortunately, I think you are mis-understanding. This problem has nothing to do with the "top area" --
It is the area under the SA Unit, that I believe to be the problem.
