Rockola 494 Optical

by bigdogblues » Tue May 17, 2011 7:57 am

Here's what I'm hoping is a fairly straight forward question for you all.

My Rockola 494 is playing the wrong selection. ie. if I select #141, I get #191 playing.
All selections are 50 off what they should be. The "home" position is off as well.
I cannot see a way to adjust the optical wheel, but surely that must be where the problem
lies. Any thoughts on this one??

Bigdog--,
I would wonder if "someone" has assembled the basket wrong ? I have never had any problems in that area with a R/O, and am unsure of the construction---but it would seem to me that there must be some sort of "plate, with holes in it" that the optic watch ? Ron Rich

I had the same problem with my 490 I'm not sure what your machines like I'm a total novice at this but to realign mine I found under the turntable at the back of the motor what drives the magazine a rod sticking out facing to the back of the machine it's about an inch long if I twist that it turns the magazine putting it back in line I can't see mine it's well hid so might take some finding hope this helps

Big Dog,

The encoder "hub" is a two-part assembly that the encoder "wheel" (disc with holes for each record slot) attaches to. The two halves of the hub are slot and tab style assembly with a spring / screw adjustment. Make sure that the two halves have no been forced too far out of alignment and that the screw/spring and strike plate are still in place. One last thing - check the actual hub where the main shaft goes through. Sometimes these will split and cause the alignment to be off - maybe not 50 slots, but at least one or two.

If you don't have a manual with parts book, let me know and I will see if I can scrounge on up.

Respectfully,

David

Thanks for the tips guys, and sorry for the delayed reply.
I'll get back out there and see what I can find.
I mis-spoke in my first post, I'm not out 50 slots, only 5.

Question for you--
Did this happen "all by itself", or were some "adjustments" done on the phono, prior to this happening ? Ron Rich
