My recent purchase. (seeburg scd)

by faded » Thu Aug 11, 2011 7:14 pm

well i recently picked up a seeburg scd-1 the only information regarding a serial number was on the service pannel it said pcm-2
my question is when go to pick a cd the player does nothing. i know the player is getting power because it will open the front but it will not pick up a cd
i saw an option for service mode yet i have no clue on what all the dip switches do so i have yet to mess with them is there any way to test the cd unit itself
to see what the issue is and if it would be fixable?

Well,
S'long story--short version--might just be you have purchased a new boat anchor.
That CD player, nor ANY CD playing phono, was NOT built by the Seeburg Corp--It was made by a small company that had purchased what was left of "Stern/Seeburg" which included the rights to the word "Seeburg". It failed as a company, and several other, later, "Seeburgs" also failed.
So, What you have there is the first generation ( with 10k of, "mods", or "updates"-- maybe-), and very little CORRECT info available--plus almost no parts availability.
If you can find someone with experience on them in your area, that's your 'best bet"--or you can spend some money and purchase a reprint of the "service manual", and go from there--
Sorry for the "bad news"---
BTW--The serial number, by law, had to be attached to the outside rear of the cabinet, and THE SAME NUMBER, also had to be attached to the mechanism Ron Rich
