Need help troubleshooting: Wurlitzer OMT 1015 45 rpm Juke

Hi all,

I'm a newbie to the jukebox scene, but I've a veteran to building and repairing 80's arcade machines to I'm willing to learn new technical stuff with jukeboxes. That said:

Earlier this year, I had the chance to buy a non-working jukebox (the guy said the last owner gave it to him non-working - "It used to work and then it just stopped" is what he said when I asked him what was wrong with it. It looked to be in decent shape, so I pulled the trigger on it. A new project!

I took several pics of it, before I wrapped it up and put it in the garage. There it will remain until I get some answers on a on a few things.

Here are the symptoms:

- It powers up and all the lights go on
- I can hear the "thump" of the amplifier powering up.
- On the outside, the right front light doesn't "rotate" so it stays one color. Further inspection inside found a rotted grommet where the gear rotates the mechanism. Once replaced it will work fine. (parts dealers?)
- The display does not light up... at all (red LED numbers, etc). My guess is this either needs replacing or something is disconnected. It doesn't seem to be getting any power.
- Records were all included in the deal and they are in great shape.
- All keys and manuals were included. Key to coin box and key to open the door.

Any help will be appreciated. I noticed that there are some clipped red and black wires (usually power colors). They look suspicious. Any ideas?

I'm assuming this switch is in the correct position?


This is the part that does not light up as it should. It's completely dead. My novice guess is that it's not getting power. Thoughts?


In this pic, the rubber grommet is missing which will allow the piece to turn (gives illusion of colors changing on outside)

On the other side, you can see the grommet in place. It works but it will need to be replaced due to the cracks.


This connector is not plugged in. I'm assuming it's not supposed to be. But I'm not sure. This plug is located on the inside of the door.

These red and black wires appear as if they were cut. Could it be that they were like this when the unit was functioning? Not sure. If they were cut, where would they connect to? My guess is one is ground and the other could be voltage. These wires are located on the inside of the door.

These are various switches and plugs.

1) Play Simulator - What position should this be in to work?
2) Service - Should it be in "Test" or "Open"?
3) Green plug - Is it supposed to be plugged in? If so where?
4) Red and White plugs - Are they plugged into the right place?

I did some homework and I believe it's the I-84 amp which was issued on older OMT models issued from 1988 to 1996. (Has treble and bass thumb controls)

You have posted some pretty nice photo's--of course they do not show the "important" parts---
Need to see the whole board that the connector is empty on, and the bottom right corner of the S&CC, which has a number on it--
The un-connected green plug in the center of the door is for a dollar bill unit--
And it appears as if the service switch ( could be marked "Gripper") on the mechanism board, is in the "off position"--needs to be "on".
questions on the last photo:
1. "work"--this is apparently for the play stimulator--I have not seen this arrangement before, but would imagine that would depend on if you want that feature --on or off ?
2. Once again, I have not seen this switch before, but would imagine it is a question of do you want in "normal operating " mode, or "service" mode--I would assume "open" to be "normal"--but remember, it is WurliTzer GMBH that you are dealing with--
3. Green plug, if I recall correctly is an optional coin switch connection--depends on which coin "rejector" is installed ( all colored wires above are coin switch-set-ups)
4. White plug is coin switch common--should be attached to the marked, "upsidedown T" post ( German for "ground", or maybe "chassis ground"--don't recall) Red is usually power--may connect to reds on door ?
BTW--get thee a pinball rubber for the door motors--works better then the originals--

Thanks for the reply Ron. I'll need to take more pics of the juke with more details. I can post them next week hopefully. If not sooner.

Great suggestion about the pinball rubber for the door motors. I did some research on them and I'm overwhelmed on which ones to get. Any specific vendor recommended? Does it pay to buy a whole kit just for 2 pieces?

I have the manual for the juke which is fortunate, so I'll need to study it to understand where those "cut" wires are coming from. Speaking of which, would the info you need be in there? I could always scan it into PDF format and post it here.

Pinball rubber, either white, or black, about that diameter, is fine-will last much longer then original stuff, so I would buy no more then 2--
Which "book" do you have--there were several versions printed--none correct 100% of the time--

Sorry for the delay, but I was busy scanning the manuals in. I have a huge pdf file and I'm trying to figure out where I can host it so that I can post the link here.

In the meantime, I am working on lugging the beast into my apartment so that I unwrap it and take some more pics of the boards.
