Rowe R83

Hi All

The Rowe R83 has a Disco Light Control, Part No. 4-07169-01. I have never seen one of these that work. Is there some common problem with this component that makes them all go bad?

What would be some of the common things to check to try to get one of these units working? (Thyristor-Triac -- Transistor Silican (NPN) -----Logic --- Etc)

A lot of them have bad solder joints at the connector pins.

In addition to the (in)famous A-MP connector pin problem ( they used "round pegs" and a square hole on those), and the headers being poorly soldered, I have found almost every type of component "bad" in them-- Ron Rich

And sometimes these units failed because "somebody" had put in the wrong bulbs in the machine.

Thank you for the guidance, at least it is a starting point. I know many times a particular component will have one or more parts that are prone to failure. If a person knows the parts that are prone to failure it provides a good point to start trouble shooting.

Hi Darrell,

The R-83 Disco uses 110 volt 11 watt ES lamps, the circuit can be a trial to follow and is the odd ball of all of the sound to light units used on Rowe Ami jukeboxes, all the rest use 14 volt mini wedge lamps or in the case of the R-84 Tempo Disco which uses the larger wedge lamps.

My guess is the triacs.
