dual 1225 auto spindle

Hello all:
Is anyone willing to share info on refurbing multi play spindles? I am trying to work on one from a dual 1225. It will play fine singly but with the multi play spindle, won't shut off after the last record. The manual says "replace the spindle". I have a spare spindle apart and think I understand how it works but I'm not certain how the spindle signals the shut off. It can only be downward pressure on the follower cam but how much? how little? and over what range of motion? Surely these spindles can be repaired short of rocket science. Any help is appreciared.

I suspect the toggling lever assembly on the cam gear is binding due to old lubrication.
Try having the changer serviced professionally, I'm sure it's due.

I sanded a few thousandths off the langth of the extended spindle thinking perhaps wear and tear has loosened it a bit and allowed the inner shaft to set too far down in the outer case causing the cam to be too far depressed. Since zero downward pressure = no spindle = single play = shut off at records end, and me pressing down firmly on the follower with the eraser end of a pencil = replay at records end. Has been working fine through a three record set of Shumann and a three record set of Bartok shutting off correctly each time. We'll see how long that lasts.

Backyard mechanics!

You're obviously not addressing the actual issue here and without a clue as to the issues Duals, among other changers, have.
In all my years as a service tech I've never, never had to sand/grind anything on a Dual - I properly service them with fresh lubrication and proper adjustments according to Dual service information.

Excellent. Then you can answer my original question as to the precise workings of the spindle piece by piece (perhaps you have an exploded drawing?)and what effect they have on the shut-off cycle.

My best advice is to locate a professional service tech (as I am) who knows these changers and has a good reputation.
Putzing around with these things will just make it worthless junk that not even I would want to bother with.
I've seen the mess that stubborn "backyard mechanics" wind up with - grinding, scraping, bending, forcing.... it's all crap by then.
Save yourself the hassle and have it done right.

Seems to be playing fine now, single or auto. Just needed a little tweaking I guess.

This usually means the projection on the spindle rocker arm is bent, or the rocker arm is hanging up or misadjusted, not anything in the spindle.
